Pyro acting up...

I have an Autometer Pyrometer that I have had for about 2 years. I just got the twins put in and with the location of the probe, I had to route the wires between some hot pipes. Now, my gauge fluctuates very irratically when I step on it. It is sometimes accurate but if it is climbing (on the gas) then it flickers really bad.



What's up with this thing?

sounds like it may be a bad sending unit. . just my guess. my Isspro EV gauge was doing the same thing. I have a short temper, and beat on the amplifier box too hard, and broke it. . had to get a new one... Oops! Oh well, but check your sending unit... Just a thought.

I'm thinking it might be the wire routing between hot piping. Could it be? I was thinking about going to get some insulation wrap for the sender wires. It is just strange that it started when i installed the twins.

If you are using just an extruded pvc covering on the tc wire then yes that can and will throw off the calibration.



The are high temperatures sleeves or thermocouples with high temp insulations available.

My AM pyro just started acting up, too. It was stuck at 550--600. AM is shipping me a new probe and lead-- for free!! I thought their customer service was pretty good, as it took me all of 30 seconds (no lie) on the phone to get this done. The pyro reads fine after a couple minutes, but it's always "stuck" when I first start the truck.



Hopefully the new probe fixes it.
