Not even having the truck for a week and I already am planning on too much to do to it.

Where do you recommed buying the gauges? - Summit, jegs, ???

What brand gauges to get or what to avoid?

Thanks!

Dan

You will get several answers on the best brand.

I have autometers Z-series and love them. Easy to see, function well, etc. I would recomend them to anyone.

If you decide on autometer, go to the product forum. There is a thread about someone selling them real cheap. I think someone got the boost and pyro for around $180.

PS. If you plan to upgrade HP, buy the 0-60 PSI boost. My 0-35 does me no good.

I got mine from diesel injection service in Lubbock, Tx. I got a 0-50 psi Isspro boost gauge, and a Isspro analog pyrometer for something like $175. 00 delivered.

I like the gauges themselves, but the lighting sucks big time. I wrote to them about 4 months ago to get a brighter light part #,(everyone apparently has brighter lights, but no bulb number??) but still dont have a reply.

I put these in a pillar mount, but it was extra. I forget how much $$$.

Gauges

You will get a lot of different answers on this subject. I think everone thinks theres are the best and maybe they are, i just picked the ones i liked the best, and if nascar and other racers are useing the same so much the better. I run auto-meter pro comp. ;)

I'm concerned about lighting when mounted on the pillar. Afraid it will be too bright & distracting. Do any of the popular gauges have variable lighting? Any brands which have better or worse light?

You can wire the bulb(s) of the gauge to be variable. All you need to do is find the dimmer wire on the truck. In 96 models it's orange.

I have VDO's with the green booties on the A-Pillar and have these wired directly to the parking lamp circuit, no dimming ability, and I do find these too bright at night.

gauges!?

I had ordered ISSPRO "Enhanced Visibility" gauges that are easy to see back in April and as of this week they are still not shipped from the factory due to a production problems. I cancelled the order due to factory now says August or September till the bugs are out!!!! I just ordered from TST Products and expect that they'll be here next week or so. Read up on your "boost" needs before ordering. If you are "bombing" your truck, you need to get a higher boost level like 50 or 60 lbs boost. I'm getting a three pillar setup that looks awsome in the truck. I'd call the salesperson that you decide to buy from to see if they're in stock before you order, otherwise it maybe a looooooooooooong time. Good Luck, Herb

My Autometer gauges are wired to 12V. The white background light not a distraction at night for me. Have seen one with RED covers that looked neat.

Hello Pogodually,

Hi,

Yesterday I ordered the full set of three from TST Products. I tried to order Autometer guages from D. I. S. and Geno's but none of them had all the parts in stock! AND they couldn't tell me when they would have it all for sure. Being I waited for ISSPRO and their"EV" gauges which are easy to see, since April, I was ready to get about most anything. I want to get it installed ASAP due to I'm doing a bunch of trailering next month and in Oregon that means mountain climbing! I'll be doing the install myself. Than I'll probably go for a fuel plate from TST to gain a little more power. :D Thanks for the info! Herb:D Does anybody have a #8 plate sitting around?

Thanks Cooker!

You might try www.Westach.com They make the stuff Geno's sells. They have a wonderful free catalog too. It has all the wiring diagrams for hookups. I've had my boost/EGT combo guage for 4 years, and another one for the engine/trans. oil temp. Good, aircraft quality guages.

I am also using Westach gauges and am real pleased with their appearance and the lighting.

You can order direct from them and they DO answer e-mail.

(I find some businesses provide e-mail access but never answer your questions).

By the way, you can get the combo EGT/Boost gauge from Geno's cheaper than Westach sells it.

Whatever brand you decide on, do not get the "sticky mount" velcro dash mounting brackets. There is no way to keep it in one place during the summer and the glue on the back of the velcro really makes a mess on the dash. The post mounting looks better and will not melt off your dash.
