It is time for me to install the rest of my guages. I have a question regarding the pyro. I have noticed that most people install the pyro in the exhaust manifold before the turbo. Should I remove the turbo before I drill into the manifold? Or will the shavings not harm the turbo? I have not had time to look recently but is there a port that I can use for the boost or do I have to drill one also. I am non-intercooled at this time so I still have that intake manifold that goes across the valve covers?

Take it slow drilling the manifold an put a dab of grease on the end of the drill bit just before you break through. Most of the chips will stick to it and you'll be fine. Also good policy to do a little magnet fishing just to be on the safe side.

On the second gen 12 valves there is 1/8 pipe thread port on the driver side of the head that can be removed to access boost. I'm not sure about yours. Check out TST's install directions for a picture of the port I'm refering to.

914,

There was a plug on the side of my intake, about midway. I unscrewed it and the threads were identical. I installed the probe there and it works fine.

change out the manifold gaskets...?

... or you could pull the thing completely, and change out the exhaust manifold steel gaskets while yer in there... good preventitive mnx. ... or you could insert a thin deflector shield between the manifold and the turbo inlet that will prevent the shavings from going anywhere, then when done slowly lower the turbo and vacuum out... I dunno, just a thought, but I'd still pull it and replace gaskets...

Ditto tugboatphil's comments on the boost install.

I got a decent pic of the location for the pyro fitting on my readers rigs, diesel, if you wanna have a look. There was a great thread about this a short while ago - BushWakr posted a sweet diagram of the whole thing. I'll try to find it and repost. B-Wakr, you have it handy?
