Hey guys, what options are there for pyro cool down timers for the 89-98 trucks? Are we able to run a timer even without the computers? If so, who makes good/reliable ones? Are they worth the money are is waiting an extra 10 seconds a much better option?

If it helps, I am thinking of one for the 1990 and the crewcab, hence the reason I ask for both 1st and 2nd gen.

Thanks! Oo.

I've never seen one, but I would imagine you could make something that taps into your shutdown solenoid. You might even be able to find some kind of generic switch thats activated by a thermocouple and with some good planning you could probably wire it into the shutdown solenoid yourself.

Remote start and car alarms have cool down timers included with them and cost about the same as a timer alone. My alarm uses the wait to start light for the grid heater delay when starting in cold weather and works ok. I set the parking brake and hit a button on the remote to set timer. Take key and lock truck, runs for a preset time, not temp. like most cool down timers. You can adjust the run time also.

Robert, I am still using the old stand-by, "one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three... . "

However, I have heard good results from those that have upgraded to "one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi. " I'm not sure of the conversion rate, but you might try, "one Saskatchewan, two Saskatchewan, three Saskatchewan... " :-laf

(sorry, I couldn't resist ;))

That is too funny.

I've got the Isspro 4130 in my truck, I love it, it's amazing how long it will run sometimes and sometimes it shuts right down, much better than sitting and watching the gauge before shutting down. You also get some weird questions from people when you get out of your truck and walk away with the keys in your hand and the engine still running. I've had it for about 6 years and it's one of the best things I have ever put on my truck. I did add an extra thermocouple post turbo for it, my gauge is pre turbo and the shutdown is post.
