Pyro is in, Post-turbo.

Since I've not put a lot of time behind the wheel watching the pyo, I thought I'd ask what "normal" is...

WOT, for 1. 2 miles, at 85 MPH, upgrade, I get to about 850 at 3000 ft elevation.

Cruising, at level - 300 -400. 5% upgrade at 60-65 - 500. Idle - 200

That sounds about right. I've moved my pyro to the pre-turbo location and I now see 850 to 900 cruising at 70 mph, 105 degrees outside. This is with POD's, 12cm non waste gated, power screw 1 turn past the collar and advanced timing, 3 1/2 in. exhaust, walker high flow, 2nd gen intercooler. I run about 7 lbs boost under those conditions.

Mine reads 6-800 at 65-70 MPH running empty and 1200 at WOT up very steep hill empty. Jut put the gauge in and have not pulled the fifth wheel yet.

PW, those numbers look so close to what mine were it's surprising. The only variation is the cruising at level, in my case it ran about 450*F so even that is pretty darn close.

BTW, that was with the 180 HP Bosch injectors too.

Bob.

In hindsight, PW, with your experience I'm curious why you put the pyro in a post-turbo location??? Was there a particular reason or just experiment??

bob.

Because the turbo elbow (from the ISB) was set up for it already.

Because the pyro gauge I got is marked and color coded for post-turbo? (it was cheap, too)

Because I really REALLY don't like the thought of putting yet another obstruction in the tiny little manifold passage between the engine and turbo.

And I'm lazy.

Need any more reasons? :)

BTW, I'll be at hdm48's place next week. How far up north of the border are you?

At 70mph on I84 between Portland and Pendelton I see 500 to 650 pre-turbo. Coming up the hill outside of Pendelton back towards Portland at 70mph it will go up to 900. When mine was post turbo I had about the same readings that you've got.

BTW Mark will you be in Spokane for Diesel Thunder?

Happy trails

Bob
