Hi,

Have a 6. 7 with the auto, 7000 miles so far with the same codes, oil change message every 2000 miles issues that some of the rest of us have been having, with a new question. I would like to add a pyro and boost gauge to the truck like I put on my 2003. Where is the best location on these new engines,(with all the extra plumbing) for the sensors. Thanks for your help!

Mike

I put my pyrometer sensor in the side of the exhaust manifold. I used a right angle air drill. Nothing had to be removed. Keep the drill bit greased so the shavings will not fall into the turbo. When taping use grease on the tap.

Placed the pyro at the inlet of the turbo same as Potteiger, the boost gauge I had a bolt machined to fit the forward most inbroard screw for the intake. The boost bolt I had to have made . 250" longer because of the intake heater grid/plate. It is about a 1/4 inch in thickness.

Temps run 8-900 normal driving, regen runs about 1000-1200 for about 5- 10 minutes, then returns to 8-900 degree's.

JSmole,

Got any PIC's of these tap points and the installed hardware you can share dude??? This being my first Dodge and all, a PIC of your install on your 6. 7 would sure be cool

This forum has helped me on many issues, and I try to return the favor.

You need to do some research before attempting this job.

a. Do a TDR search on "EGT". Many posts there on probe installation.

b. Do a member post search by name "robmints". This member has posted a link with pictures on the two common probe locations on a 5. 9. It is worth pointing out that the location above the turbo must be drilled on the back half of the casting to pick up cylinders 4/5/6. There is a division wall in the middle of this casting. I have not seen a 6. 7 and have no idea if the exhaust manifold is similarly configured.

c. Get expert advice. Genos Garage (770) 886-2500 & (770) 886-8811 has a very good tech line and they probably have experience with the 6. 7

JSmole, Your regen sounds similar to what I am seeing. I stay in regen for approx. 10 minutes and out of regen for approx. 60-70 miles. How many miles are you seeing while out of regen?

Will have to get the camera out and take a few pics, Sorry

It has been going in regen and out every 30 miles or so. Sounds to often to me, for it to be going into regen. Today I went 70 miles and have not started a regen cycle, like it normally would have done. Sounds like our trucks are doing pretty much the same.

The pics I did take are to high picle should be 800 tops, have to resize before I can post them.

JSmole,

You put the three guages on the pillar mount I noticed from the reference of your vehicle at the bottom of your post. You do this without losing the handle???

I have to bring this to the top again. I still don't know where you guys are installing the egt probe in the exhaust manifold on the 6. 7. I've done it in my 2003 with the 5. 9, but the 6. 7 is a totally different thing altogether. It's a lot more restricted and I don't know if drilling right over the turbo in the collector is safe or even possible, ( is the web section still in the casting?) Is there another place that's ideal in the horizontal section of the manifold to drill, ( I drilled by number three cylinder in the 5. 9) Called Genos, didn't really have a suggestion on the 6. 7's Are most people installing the probe post turbo, if so where?

I put mine in the same location as the pic from sduran. Nothing has to be removed if you use a right angle drill but mine is in at a slight angle due to the braded coolant hose. I used my boost bolt from my 05 for the boost gauge. Remove one of the intake bolts closest to the head for the boost bolt.
