Pyro Probe and 4

I finally decided to install a 4" exhaust turbo to tail and was wondering if there is any problems with installing a second pyro probe in the 4" downpipe.

I'm basically concerned with the downpipe not being as meaty as the stock elbow, and also getting a good fit of the probe in the downpipe.

Thanks, Ryan

I have had the same thought with putting a temp. gauge in my transmission. I have the Genos filter on my five speed and will drill a hole in the cover and braze a fitting to receive the probe into the cover plate. I don't see why that wouldn't work with the exhaust. I'm getting ready for a HX 40 with a 4" tube and that's what I'll do.
You'll find something.

It's not a difficult weld at all, as long as the pipe isn't already installed and space is limited. It's a good idea to run a tap into the fitting after it cools, many times the fitting will warp from the heat a little and need correcting.

Just drilling & tapping into the thin pipe may work, but would be iffy. I've done taps like that before, hard part is to get the threads started right on the curved surface, you only have one chance, because there is usually only one thread cut in the pipe. I've found it better to drill a slightly bigger hole and use the fitting to cut the threads if you do it this way. Preston's method is better.

Ok sounds like brazing a fitting on there to accept the probe is the way to go.

Do you think any descent welder could do this for me? I know my welding skills and it just wouldn't happen.

Thanks, Ryan
