I've noticed that my 2001 ETH will run cooler and cool down faster (referring to the EGT pyro readings) than my 1999 Auto. Both pyro's are post turbo with the ETH pyro in the E-Brake port and the auto pyro in the elbow out of the turbo. For example, coming home from work driving at normal speeds on flat ground for the last 1/2 mile (30 MPH) my '99 auto will take almost 1 min. to reach 350 degrees post turbo where as my 2001 ETH is basically at 350 when I pull into the driveway and will drop to 300 in 15 second.

Is this normal? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ron

This brings to mind the IAT (intake air temp) sensor cleaning or just plain faulty. Maybe your 99 has caught that bug. Maybe it was always that way my thought won't help you. Marco had a good post on the IAT last week. Hope that your problem is solved by a simple cleaning.

 If it is the IAT, that would/could explain the poor mileage I am getting (13. 7 around town). The other thing is my ’99 has always been slow to cool down (since I first installed the Pyro at abot 15,000 Miles). It always gets down to temperature and never gets up to 900 degrees (no engine mods), but it definatly shows higher reading all around (than my 2001).

My experience so far is that I'm usually at 350 deg. coming into the drive way with a similar slowdown like yours. However in the 90degree+weather it takes my engine 2-3 min to get to 300 deg. I also have noticed the cooldown is quicker if the airconditioning is not running:cool Perhaps my IAT is a cause for my decreasing mpg lately- Where is it located and what needs to be done to clean it?

IAT is located at the driver's side rear of the engine. (even further back than the MAP sensor) I used electric parts cleaner. One could probably use either or some similar cleaner. Check out the thread on cleaning the map sensor-lots of good info.

Hotel6, That's a little long for a cool down unless you've been running hard. Assuming you are running a stock air filter (paper) it should cool down a little faster. Unless you are running an Ebrake, you're IAT is going to look pretty clean. My IAT measurements and those of Marco's were different enough that I changed my IAT. It has made a difference in cool down, smoke and a minor mileage upper. I will suggest one thing. At 350* when you are getting ready to come down the driveway, downshift to a gear that will spin the engine up. That will draw in cool air through the turbo and help cool it down faster.
