Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Pyro spike on start-up...

I have noticed lately only in the morning when it is cold out that my pyro jumps up to about 800* for a few seconds then drops down to the normal 300*. It works perfectly after settling down, and only does it after sitting overnight. Has anyone else noticed this? My pyro is only a few months old, and is an Isspro EVA. What could be causing this?

I would guess that may be because your pre-heaters come on when it is cold.

I didn't think of that, but don't the pre-heaters come on always on start-up regardless of the outside temp?

the pre-heaters only come on below 59 deg and then for different amounts of time as the temps drop. Check your owners manual or search for the mysterious flickering lights problem.

I would guess it's a problem with the probe, the preheater comes on if the temp is under 59 degrees. You could test the probe by pulling it out and see if you can replicate the spike with a propane torch.

If it was a problem with the probe, one would expect it to be erratic all the time, correct? Weird...

They will also come on, if it is really cold out, when the engine is running. When the intake air temp drops low enough, they will come on. Mine have done that on occassion.
