Hey guy, for thoughs of you that have pyro's, have any of you had to change the thermocoupler? mine seems to be reading about 150-200 degrees on the cools side. I use to see about 600 degrees in overdrive at about 60mph, now about 450-500ish. I'm wondering if the thing is coated in soot or do they just need to be replaced every once in a while? thanks. Ken.
 
Hey Ken,

I have found that playing with the wires coming from the thermocoupler will fix that problem sometimes. I have had to move it up and over or side to side and seen the gauge change on some trucks. Give it a try with someone watching the gauge.
 
Ken, if you contact ISSPRO's tech line with the part number for your thermocouple they should be able to give you the resistance value for that thermocouple. The readings would be taken at ambient with the leads disconnected from the harness.

As long as we're on this, I've seen conflicting dimensions about drilling for the thermocoupler. I'm about to install one and the Geno's instructions said the hole should be 2" from the turbo flange and I was on another diesel website that had universal instructions and it said 3/4" from the flange.



How do you all have yours hooked up? Also, do you run your leads over the valve covers or behind the engine?

Behind the engine tie wrapped to the truck wiring harness.

Drilled and tapped the hole with the turbo in place. Used grease on the drill, and then a small magnetic pickup tool to remove the chips. Not as scary as it appears.

I agree that about 3/4" to 1" back from the flange is about normal for most installs. Keep in mind the center divider in manifold outlet and just go slightly to the outside of center of, which ever manifold port your using.

As noted, the "nervous factor" is higher than the difficulty level ... . just grease and clean a couple of three times while drilling and tapping and you won't have ANY problems. Tap in a bit, then try the fitting, tap in a bit etc. Since it's an NPT fitting don't tap all the way in or you probe mount will be too loose.

Thanks everyone! My new 16cm housing I got from Ebay came in today. I'm going to do my drilling with the turbo off. Thanks for warning me about tapping, Bob. I'd have gone all the way in and wondered why it kept coming loose.



Also, is there a heat paint worth putting on the exhaust housing? Will it affect temps?

Your more than welcome,,,, this is a team sport right... :D:D



The only way to really get a benefit from a "coating" is to use ceramics'..... You can use some extreme temp paint but the first time you hit 1300*F or more, it'll start to go on you... . I've tried everything from BBQ paint to stove and header paint... .

The manifold seems to last longer when painted but the exhaust housing is just too much for it... .
