Has anyone had the experience of the pre-turbo pyrometer probe burning off and going through the turbo?

Just installed mine pre-turbo, but the gauge vendor advised against it, saying he had seen a couple dozen turbos ruined this way.

Oh man... ... ... . That makes me feel more comfortable.

Now I gotta keep something else in the back of my mind toodling down the road!!

probe

I also have mine preturbo and have had zero problems with it. I would think that the only way to burn the probe off is to severely go over the the safe Egt limit so if you burn the probe then that turbo is the least of your worries( catastrophic meltdown. )!

feel at ease

There have been several threads here over the years asking if anyone has had a probe burn off. Not one person has reported experiencing it.

2 1/2 years and no problems. I would think also that if it was getting to the point of burning or breaking off that the gauage would start acting up way before this happened and would give give some warning.

If you generate enough heat to melt the probe, I'll promise you that at the same time you'll melt holes in the top of the pistons as well..... remember the heat that's going after that probe just came out of a combustion chamber.....

We can only hope it would...

go through the turbo! Can you say upgraded turbo? Honey, the turbo on the cummins bit the dust today... :--) Oo. Oo.

;) ;) Yeah, I'd hate to have to replace the small turbo with something larger:p

"Honey, this 40 is cheaper than another 35". I could make her buy that I think... ... ...
