I am about to order a EGT guage and have a question about what size thermocouple to get. I have been told that a 1/4" probe will last longer than an 1/8" probe. What concerncs me is how much restriction I am putting in the exhause manifold (am mounting pre-turbo). Will a 1/4" probe cause too much restriction? Anybody have any longevity infomation about either?

Thanks

Bob

I have never heard of longevity nor restriction being an issue with either size. The 1/8" probes respond faster than 1/4", but the 1/4" responds plenty fast for our application. I think it just boils down to personal preference and what is available with the type of gauge you buy.

There is not that much difference in the probe sizes. I prefer the 1/8 cause it's a smaller hole in the manifold (if you are going pre turbo.
