Can you guys with the Pyscotty tell me how much louder it is when you're pulling a hill with a load vs. the stock airbox/k&n setup. Is there a power increase as well, or is lower egt's the primary benefit?

Happy Truckin!

The added sound with the Pyscotty isn't that bad,you can easily carry on a conversation with a passenger at all times, the sound only increases at high boost, most of the time your engine will sound like it always has. I don't think the Pyscotty adds very much in the hp dept, but it sure does in the useable power one. By lowering the EGTs 100°-150° I am able to pull a 28 K load up a hill that before required backing off on the thottle and down shifting. Now I can blast right up the hill with the EGTs in the safe range.

Powder:

I agree with everything "illflem" has
told you. The "Psychotty" has also
lowered my EGT's by 150 degrees.

Like "illflem" I don't know if it
actually increases the H. P. , but I
think the "throttle response" is
ALOT better. I also think that under
acceleration it has decreased my smoke
some. There is more noise than with
the stock airbox/filter, and you can
hear "suction noise" when you are "on
the throttle". But as "illflem" said
it is not so bad that you cannot carry
on a normal conversation with a passenger
or listen to your radio.

After installing the psychotty air intake system with k&n, my truck sounds like a jumbo jet taxying on the runway. I like it alot!! You said your shooting for the powerpack next? Do you mean the banks powerpack?

try it with just the RE0880 K&N before you drill the hole. . that is very close to the sound you'll hear with it installed. .
wouldn't be without it myself. .

guys ive read and read about the scotty system, and after reading the previous boost thread, ive got to admit that im lost. our trucks [2001 6spd high outputs] were both bombed by our dealer. hes a diesel head like me, and we kind of worked together on our turn ups. hes the expert and im the student. let me start by saying that our trucks boost way beyond what ive read on the posts, and the egts follow, and i mean way beyond. we also have had to back off the throttle just when we think were really getting started. the scottys look like the answer, but im going to have a hard time explaining this one to the boss. he'll understand the principle and the results, but how do you explain this new intake system to dc if you have a problem? this isnt about after warranty problems, because all of our trucks are covered by ext warranty until they are sold or traded. now what do you guys think? these trucks really do better than any of our others as far as towing and we have every possible light duty truck in service now except for the duramax. its hard not to get into details without going on forever, but iwill say that we are not using a computer chip, but injectors, plates, and fuel pump adjustments. what the combination is i have no idea, and dont want to know as long as my dealer made them. do yall understand what im getting at?

packman,I think that you will have no problem selling the boss on a Phscotty when you tell him the lowered EGTs will prevent major damage to a modified or towing truck's engine when a careless employee doesn't keep their eye on the EGTs or the truck doesn't have a pyro. $150 is cheap insurance for a Cummins engine.
As for the warranty,it shouldn't effect it, but it's less than a 5 minute job to remove the Phscotty and replace the stock airbox, just one hose clamp and snap the airbox on. If you just fold back the firewall insulation before drilling the hole and leave it intact it can be folded back to cover the Phscotty hole when replaceing the airbox. No one will be the wiser.

Does anybody know if the system has a CARB or SEMA number? If it does it isn't a warranty issue by law. Contact SEMA and they will help. With the way Ma Mopar is about warranties, I look for a CARB or SEMA number before buying.

No, its just an idea that became reality by a good ol boy. It works. The waranty issue is about like argueing a murder case. With the right lawyer and lack of evidence, you walk free. What gives? You are in the good with the dealer it sounds like, and you are already making mods, so whats the big deal with an aircleaner? Just do it. If its going to cause loss of sleep on your part, toss the idea and stay stock.

Hey guys:

Which do you think would be better, the psychotty or the air bulldog hood? I'm asking this from a purely EGT standpoint. I know the hood makes the entire truck look better but is it that much better than that Psychotty? Thanks in advance.

I hate to hurt Scott's feelings but when I saw he wanted $200 bucks for the system and filter. I went out to the local parts store and odered a K&N RE0860(2" shorter) for $63. 00 and then went home and rolled a nice piece of aluminum and made me a system "Like" his but its polished aluminum.

I would be interested in providing him with some of these as an alternative to the plastic, for you guys that like your truck to shine a little.

oh, it lowered EGT's by 150 at 75mph empty.

Powder,

I too am concerned about the noise level. I contacted K&N and they are sending me an RE-0880 and foam skin to try. We've got a meet (RMTDR chapter) at Denver on Feb 24. I'll be bringing it with me if anyone wants to try it.

here is Scotty e-mail address. . send him some info as I'm sure he would like to see your ideas and suggestions, and price quotes

Powder Extreme, the meeting will be off of I-25 and 58th street at Central Motive Power, about Diesel injection. If you would like further information, e-mail me. I'll give you a call.

Guys as far as the Psychotty System. I noticed that the wwcd2 discount has them at a really good price.

Psychotty Air

Banshe, I've been considering it and would apprecieate it if you'd bring the filter.

I'm sure its been asked before, but how does the noise level with the psychotty and silencer ring compare with the stock air box without the ring? I'm running without now, and don't think I'd like anything much louder. My stock type filter is due for a replacement pretty soon.

Thanks,

Pete

pcorssmit... there is a distinct whistle heard in the cab with the Pyscotty Airbox system. The higher the boost, the higher the pitch of the whistle, kinda like a jet at takeoff. It's not real loud, but you know it's there. I think it is one of those sounds that you either love or hate, I love it, the wife hates it, LOL. I never had the ring out of my stock turbo, but now have a HX40. Hope this helps. I would suggest taking a ride in a "scotty equipped Ram" before you purchase.

I'd like to hear the answer to BlkDemon's question. Which one is best for lowering egt's, pschotty, or the bull dog hood. I know there's a big diff. in price, but since when does $ bother the BOMBer's.
