Did a quick search, found a couple with the same problem but no solution.

The bottom latch on my d-side quad cab door won't latch (actuated it with a screw driver). The passenger side one works fine with the same test. Before I go tearing into the door and latch blind figured I'd see if anyone has dealt with this. Is there something internal to the latch, a spring loose or a cog that needs lubricated, that could be the culprit for in-op? Or should I just chock the latch up to a lost cause and get a new one? This isn't a striker issue, the latch on the door side won't latch. Any ideas?

When mine did that, I found that the latch had a buildup of crud inside it, and a spring broken. This prevented the latching mechanism from locking in place. It worked fine after a cleaning and some lube & a new spring.

The latch is riveted together, I drilled out the rivets and then used the mounting bolts to hold it together.

it has worked fine ever since.

If I recall correctly removing the vent cowl on the end of the door will give you some access to the latch without pulling the inside door skin.
