Quad cab short box Toolbox????

Does anyone have a toolbox installed in their 03 quad shorty?



I called delta tooloboxes on a model they had and they said none would fit my truck because the bed was too short.



So I went out and started measuring from a crafstamn box I was looking at and sure enough it would hit the wheel wells.



Has anyone found a box that will fit? I was looking for a plain crossover style that dosen't touch the bed floor.

There are at least a couple of manufacturers who make "slimline" toolboxes that measure only 12" wide (truck front-to-rear) rather than the more common 20". I've seen one (unbranded) at Tractor Supply Company, and United Welding Services (UWS) makes one.



I have a UWS Slimline box. It's actually a shorter Dakota model, so I can suspend it between the bedrails, so that a) it fits flush with the bedrails and won't interfere with my 5th-wheel, and b) it sits up off the floor of the bed, so it doesn't rob me of any part of the full 6'3" load length (at least for low clearance things like lumber) like a chest, or "5th-wheel box" would.

I have a big tool box on my truck!

I have a deep delta box in mine. My readers rig has a picture, kind of a bad pic though. It goes to the bottom of the bed nearly with a 4 to 4. 5 inch gap on the bottom to the bed. The box did hit the fender very so slightly ( I have a spray-in liner). I just used a 9/16 bolt and torched it down, denting the wheelwell inward about a 1/4 inch. The dent is so small that it is not noticeble from the inside of the wheelwell. Another thing you can do is to put a small strip of rubber that is a 1/4 inch thick (piece of a mudflap) between your box and the bed to keep from having to dent in the wheelwell.

I will take a couple of pictures of the box and try to get them to you tomorrow if you would like.

I purchased a TruckTrunk toolbox for my QC shortbox. I'm extremely picky about quality and looked at about a dozen or so various manufacturers. I drove an hour to physically see a TruckTrunk box and put the order in right there.

I chose the "Ultra" series, and it ran over $450. After 11 months of 100% outdoor living, still happy with it.

I don't have pics, but it's a low profile over the bed box, and I got the larger of two sizes for the short box. In my case, it really is a "trunk", since I carry my high lift jack, tie downs, tarps, tow straps, med kit, extinguisher, extra oil, water, etc.

The only catch, is that if you choose this model, you'll need to take a dremel to the edge to cut access to your stake bed holes. I used the Bull hooks, and just cut a corner off for the access. Very handy, but I could have been a bit neater.

I bought a deep toolbox from Northern Tool. It is a private labeled Daws Better Built. It uses their no drill clamp type mount which I really like. I will get a pic or two to post later.

Manufacturers do make boxes with wheel well cutouts. Don't give up!
