Does anyone have an idea of what the approximate weight of the cab might be for my truck? I am going to start on a complete cab swap (01 QC transfered to my 98. 5) shortly and was planning to pull the seats and doors to reduce the weight.

I've pulled several and lifted with a tractor or hoist. I'd have to estimate the extended cab weight around 1200-1500lbs with everything in it, so figure it from that, if you like.....

Well, and I'll have to say that is with the A/C system, front fenders and electrical still attached... ... ...

What are you going to lift it with? I pulled the cab off my '01 QC a few days ago (dash out, front seats out, front doors off, but hood still on). While it was still on the frame, I could almost lift one side up by myself. I cheated on the lift though, a Cat 311 picked it right up.

Now I'm getting underway with the frame up restoration - new cab, new fenders, aluminum service body, cab bushings, control arm bushings, ball joints, wheel bearings, brakes, sway bar links, steering shaft, stock fuel filter delete, u-joints everywhere, SBC double disc clutch, real bumpers, intercooler boots, exhaust, a paint job...

Schulz,
That's pretty much where I 'm headed. I decided to attempt mating the nose of mine with a power pole at 20 mph (skidded on some gravel and didn't make the turn. Drivers door is rotten, pass fender has a small hole plus the damage for my stupidity.
After running the numbers and some searching I found a 01 QC gasser in AL for short money. I leave next wed to fly down and drive it home.
I'll strip the cab of the hvy stuff. Did you leave the front clip on?
No fair cheating... I'll have to get creative I think for my lift.

A good A-frame or engine hoist that will lift a truck engine should lift it easy, even with all the stuff in it..... Maybe lease a small forklift? Even electric should lift it pretty easy. Maybe make a small frame with some 8-10" I beam... ... I used a small 100hp New Holland tractor, and it didn't even lug the engine down at idle, so I know it's not as heavy as the hay bales I lift all the time which weigh around 15-1800lbs.....

I heard once a quad cab weighs about 200 lbs more than a club cab due to a little extra weight from the doors and cab reinforcement for structural integrity. Not sure though.

I'm thinking about having a look in the attic of my shop and seeing if I can get a 6x6 or 8x8 up there, drill a hole in the ceiling and hang a chain fall. Only down side is that it leaves me with a fixed location for the hoist. The shop is 30 ft wide and the trusses are typical 2x4. My ceiling inside is 16ft so installing a support from the floor to the ceiling so mid span isn't exactly easy. I'm not all that comfortable with that distance.
Time for a little yankee ingenuity I think.
I keep thinking of putting in a post lift but I just don't want to have that one post sitting out in the middle of the shop. Shop's 30 x 38 and its clear space inside. I just don't want to give that up. I'll be able to put both trucks inside side by side.
