i had the quadzilla 30-60-90 box on my 03 so a $55 upgrade for 06 box seemed like a good idea. i have the commander for gauges also on the 06.

the only mod to the new truck is a scotty ram air 3 for the filter. i have no useable power. the truck gets to 1200 degrees so fast towing on the 30 and 60 hp settings you have to get of the throttle then downshift.

Is 1200 degrees the level to stop at. my pyro is between 3 and 4 on top of exhaust manifold. the truck will not go past 1180 towing with the quad on zero.

my question is , will i see the same thing with smarty instead of the quad box and just use the commander for the gauges? or do i have to do other mods to get the temp down so i can use some of the power.

with the 03 will towing, i tried two different exhaust and could not handle the drone at 2100 rpm. i can list them if anybody is interested. the 03 seemed to run a lot cooler. my useable power from the box.

thanks for any input anybody.

What two different exhaust systems did you try. I am in the market for some performance mods and wanted to purchase a performance exhaust for my 06.

An aftermarket turbo would go a long ways toward letting you use an extra 60-90hp. There are hundreds of threads on this, do a search and read away. :)

i tried the mbrp turbo back kit and it had a pretty bad drone while towing.

i tried the aoroturbine on the down pipe, it helped the drone a very small amount.

the banks muffler was no better. you could not even tell a difference.

First off 1200 degress is not hot at all for a 600 series engine. These motors run in the 1250-1300 degree range stock on a regular basis.

Also remember when your module is in the "off" position it is still doing boost fooling and that will help with stock power and egt's. This is basically the same as a stock truck installing our boost fooler.

If you look around anyone will tell you that the 600 trucks run hot. It is always smart to keep them around the 1300-1350 mark and that is very, very conservative. These engines were designed to be able to run 1400-1450 for long periods of time. Many people run them well over 1500 for short periods of time without any trouble although I cannot recommend that.

I cannot give you exact results for the Smarty and while it is a good product anything that adds fuel will add to the peak egt's. There is no magic and it takes fuel to make very much power and the more fuel you burn the hotter the egt's. There is no if ands or buts about that.

Now you can do exhaust mods and intake mods and they will help a lot but, it does not sound like you are really pushing the egt limit while pulling yet. Keep these max numbers in mind and then do some towing and see if it still is an issue.

I'm looking at adding 4" pipes, but concerened about loudness inside cab. This sounds like a good fix. Have you heard firsthand from anyone who installed one of these mufflers? Thanks for the tip.
