A little help needed...

I received and installed my Quad box last night. I am very impressed with the box so far. The engine now runs very smooth and quiet compared to the EZ. Power seems better. I had 0 codes or A/C issues like I have read about from others. I do get some surging with the cruize on. (normal). Only small issue is a slight surge when I key the mike on the CB. I figure I'll route the CB antenna wire through another grommet in the firewall as they are side by side right now.

I am curious how this box does the duration and timing advance. It connects to the same locations as the EZ did. (Map sensor and Fuel pressure). To adjust duration and timing I figure it would need crank sensor and injector connections. I would appreciate some feedback on this as well as what box I could stack with it to get the duration and timing. I have the tone ring mod as well so I may not need much as far as timing goes.

Thanks.

I suspect that the newer Quad boxes are pressure only, with timing coming from the modified boost signal. I know TS Performance does some tricky boost fooling to get timing changes, perhaps the new Quad does that too.

My Quad modules (standard and race) plugged into the data link in addition to the rail pressure sensor and MAP sensor, allowing the module to modify timing directly.

Quad

No complaints from me. I think the box is great as is. I'll try messing with the CB antenna wire a bit if I can't do something with that maybe I'll call them. It's really not a big deal to me right now. I key the mike and the truck picks up some speed (slight). The quad box provides greater as well as smoother HP than the EZ on level 2 (which is all I felt was safe) in my opinion. Less fuel pressure than the EZ as well will be safer for the injectors. Plus I got it new from a vendor and less than 1/2 price off ebay. Even with a minor glich I can't beat that.

Last year I was towing stock only changing the air cleaner to the AFE. The 5er weighs 15k and I can see an improvement with the 70 Hp 150 ft lbs torque chip from Quad I installed this last summer. My 04. 5 dually performs a lot better with the chip and no problems only it makes your over head fuel comp tell lies. I did not get the 4 mph improvment it said but somebody on TDR explained it in a previous thread so I don't worry about it just drive and enjoy.

How much of a increase in MPG did you get? I'm stuck between a EZ or a Quad Tow Box. I'm new to this so I try to read a bunch. The result is... ... confusion! I Know that a big increase in rail pressure is bad so I'd like to find a duration/ timing box. I've got a 05 so I know it's a good set up it just needs some more umph off idle.

EZ or Quad box

Since I just sold my ez and installed a quad my vote goes to the quad. Truck runs much better and the power is smoother with the quad box. Also It is a 60 HP box. I would have to have the ez set on level 4 to get that. That's too much pressure from what I have read. My trip computer has gone crazy since install. It is all over the place. From 16 to 27 mpg. Too early to say what the milage actually is. Quad is less expensive as well.

KSHall

After hand caclulating a couple of tanks my acual mileage did not actually increase but the smoothness on acceleration was a lot quicker. I really noticed the power difference when towing my 36' 15k 5er. Much better and that was what I was after. Towing down here in AZ on the hills was much easier and the EGT's did not seem to climb as high. My fuel comp went from 18. 4 to almost 22 but when hand calc'ed it was 17. 4 not towing. The price for the chip was very reasonable compared to others and the 70 hp gain was within what I understand the turbo will handle with out cratering. I'm not much on a lot of bombing but this was acceptable to me. I thought I needed a bit more HP but did not want to hurt my silver bullet(04. 5 dually).

has anyone tried X-Celerator Inline power modules ? i found them online for about $362. there made by a company called MotorSports Innovations. Iv'e tried the Quad xzt but it set codes and killed the engine while running and wouldnt start again until i unplugged it. i'm looking at the EZ but i like the price of the X-Celerator Inline power modules . help please... .

Time for an update from you guys running the XZT. Time is the true test of a product so help me out here. I'am still looking for a module to increase MPG. Power, I don't care about, my truck has enough, I want more MPG.

Thanks

pwr2tow, I have been running a Quad XZT for about a 1 year & have not seen a change in MPGs but the power has been smooth and I am pleased with it. getting 17 to 21 MT & 11 towing 11,000 5th wheel.

It is very hard to get a gain in mileage when you have a gain in power. This isn't because it isn't feasable, but because it's impossible to not use the extra power. The power is there, and it feels good, and there's nothing stopping you from using it. It's as if you had a very hot, sexy lady at your disposal. Anytime she was yours for the taking... Would you be like, "No, not now"... . You'd be all over her any time you wanted... :D

Now maybe a timing only box would increase mpgs without this "problem". I think TST has something like this now.

:-laf :-laf :-laf Yah, but I'am older and wiser. Get the goods and take it easy. If I drive it like I stole it that would be fun but quick. Slow and easy is the way I like it. ;)
