I thought I saw a post on towing BB about someone going to Quartszite Az this week or so. Was on another BB and saw a post about same location. .

Something going on there? I'll be going to Lawton, Ok for my sons grad from Basic at Ft. Sill and on the way back was going to be passing thru there.

Thanks for any info. Ed

There is a huge RV show, flea market, and misc "stuff" in Quartzite. I have not been, but may go just to see what it is like... .

Quartzsite is a major RV destination. Almost the entire populaion is RV parks, very few permanent buildings.

If you love crowds...

Just a two exit 2000 residents town that has a RV gathering for nine days starting the third week of January. One of the places to visit is the big tent. It's estimated that 100,000 people pass thru the tent. (Details from Trailer Life). Good luck finding any kind of place to put the RV. Dry camp or otherwise.

You might try the library if the store shelf doesn't have a copy of the Jan '02 TL for little more detail about it.

Quartzsite, AZ Somebody on TDR going there this week?

I'll be there, but not until after the 19th. Quartzsite is a real happening for the RV and rockhound world. The town swells from a couple of thousand desert lover/loafers to tens of thousands of RVers encamped on the scores of square miles of mesquite, greasewood and sage covered BLM land surrounding the town. Here you will see $500K Newells camped beside converted school buses and VW campers with no facilities or conveniences beyond what they have brought in except for the occasional visit by the vacuum truck. The main attractions are the large rock-hound and RV manufacturer and retailers displays which include impressive inventories of motorhomes, travel trailers and fifth wheels as well as several "bombers" and tow vehicle folks such as Freightliner and the big Ford 450s and 550s. Take a couple of days to see it all. It is scattered around several areas and has a great variety of vendors which, I am sure, this year will include a plethora of patriotic products from knock-off FDNY and NYPD hats and shirts to flags to fly on or stick to your rig. It is a great show and the weather is typical Arizona winter with temperatures in the 70s and clear blue skies with 20% humidity. Bubbas and purple hair abound... ... and diesels rule! I'll be looking in on the Alfa folks who will be gathered nearby. Alfa Leisure sends some reps to answer questions and fix problems for their customer/clients.

Utah Willy is right on with his info about Quartzsite. You can buy a 500k $ motorhome to nuts and bolts and everything in between there. Good food,GREAT ice cream, crafts, art stuff, generators, antiques, socks, rugs, gold, silver and any kind of rock or boulder you can imagine. You can spend a couple of days seeing it all, because it IS THAT BIG. Take a ride in a ultralight aircraft, helicopter, balloon, and just have a damn good time meeting people from all over the country.

Oh, and would you like to know the very best part?... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Watching all the Dodge diesels cruising around. There will be more trucks there than any other get-together I've ever gone to.

See ya there.

Quartsite is best described simply in the words I have heard as you come over the hill from Blyth Ca. and first see it----

MY GOD, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT???!!!!!!!!

It is a spectacal!!

Not likely to get into an RV park. Go with holding tanks empty and fresh water full as you will most likly have to boon dock in the desert. A couple miles south of Quartsite, BLM has areas both east and west of the Yuma highway where you can camp in the desert. Last year it was 10 days for $20. If you go on south about 7 - 10 miles you can get off into the desert and camp for free. There are "Water" and "Honey" wagons available and Water and sewage dumps are available about 4 miles south of town and on the East side of the Yuma highway in a BLM area, but be prepared to stand in a loooong line.

It can be a little less than elegant and some may not be comfortable with the lack of "nice" amenities, but it is something to see.

Another even less "Nice" is "Slab City" just out of Nyland Ca. , over in the Imperial Valley.
