Question about 265/70/17's "BFG's"

I was on discount tire looking at tires and was wondering if 265's would fit on my dually? What are some of the biggest tires ran on some of your ya'll trucks as far as dual wheels are concerned without them rubbing? I would like 285's, but think that would be a really tight fit...

I just put new tires on my dually, the stock sized Cooper ATR's. Then I got to shopping for a new set on the Megacab. I think I will probably go with the new GoodYear Wranglers and I noticed they have a 245/75-17 That I am sure would fit the duallys.



I am going to try something other than BFGs this time, I've been running them for a while now on a few trucks but the Mega is only going to get 30k miles out of its 285/70 BFG ATs. I am hoping the "Pro Grade" Wranglers last a little longer. Winter use is high on my list and the Wrangler has joined the BFG in being a snow tire rated now.



If I could have waited though, I would have run the 245s on my dually. I think 265 is starting to get a bit wide for the stock wheels.

That's what I'm looking at too, I'm going back to New Mexico in Jan and need a snow rated or good off road tire because 60% of the roads I will go down will be dirt... The reason I want a snow rated tire is because Silver City is around 6,000 feet in elevation, so yes people that don't know, it does snow in New Mexico... "USA" :-laf (LOL) j/k

I'm going through this again. I am getting ready for my third set of tires for this truck (it came with Goodyear GSA's- they all cracked severely and were replaced at 35k miles). My General Ameri-Trac TR's are worn to the bars with only 25k miles on them. I, too, am looking at the Coopers. Can get a set of 6 for around $1300. The other choice is the Firestone Transforce AT's.



That said, I haven't found a 245 yet that is "recommended" for the stock 6" wide rim. They are also about 1" wider than the 235's, so I don't want to run them heavily loaded (with trailer we are pushing close to the max GCWR for this truck). I won't run spacers. I would run the Michelins, but they are $$$ and about 1/2 the people I talk to that have them say they are terrible in the snow and wet. They last a lot of miles, though.



Now, if I had several grand to spend, it'd be 19. 5" all around. 225/70/19. 5's. That'd keep me on the road more...

I have the transforce A/T's and I really like these tires. I drive this thing hard and they have really stood the test of time, power/tq really well. THey have really good wet traction too. I don't know about snow, but since all it does here is rain, I can say these things are nice in wet weather. I hated my Good Year GSA's, they sucked.

Anyone running the LT245/75R17/E BFG All-Terrain T/A KO on a dually? I've had good luck with this style tire on all of our vehicles in the past. I wasn't impressed with the AmeriTracs in the snow.

I just installed Goodyear Wrangler GSAs in the stock size. With only 27,000 miles, the stock Ameritrac TRs were wearing horribly, and neither tow nor haul. They did OK in the snow.



I was trying to find 265 Nitto Terras in the "E" rating, which some of our members have installed, but the tire shops around here seem to be incapble of getting the more exotic brands, so I finally just went with the Goodyears. So far, they ride firmer, with less "squirm" than the Ameritracs. No snow yet, so I don't know how they'll do.



I know JMora above had trouble with his GSAs, but my Ameritracs were junk, so what can you do?

I have the 05 wheels on my 01 and I'm running a set of 265/70/17 cooper stt's on it now they are E load range clearence is tight but they dont seem to give much even loaded with my 40 footer. Thye are great in the mud we havent had any snow here this year but i would say they will be fine. think I gave around 1200 for the six mounted and balanced.

This is a pic of my friend's 2006 Dodge RAM 3500 CTD DRW sportin' some LT265/70R17 Mastercraft Courser C/T's. Unloaded, there's enough clearance; he pulls a gooseneck alot, and they're close, but he's had no problems to date. If in doubt, bolt-on spacers are the way to go. www.wheeladapter.com has a great quality spacer..... we've installed several sets at the S&S Tire in Lexington. KY where I work. You can run LT285/70R17's... ... but you'll need the adapters.

What about the Bridgestone REVO'S. Quite a few people say they are great in the snow & wear pretty well, also.
