Question about 315's on stock rims?

With all the recent discussions on oversize tires I have a quick question.

I am currently running 285-75R16s (about 33" tires) and want to go to a taller tire with my stock rims. The reasons for the taller tire is my 4. 10 rear end handicap.



From what I understand my stock rims are 16x6. 5 and most of the 315-75R16s are not reccomended for anything less than an eight inch wide rim?



Is there a taller (34 -35" in dia) 16" tire that is not as wide as the 315-75R16 that would fit my stock 6. 5" rims?

Super Swamper makes their LTB in a 34X10. 50 (15,16, and 17)which would be fine for a 6. 5" rim. FIgure the max tire width is 4" wider than rim width.



I have seen 35X10. 50 swampers BUT I don;t know where the people got them from.

XJSuperman - I assume these LTBs are fairly aggressive mud tires and not ATs? I don't off-road (much) in my truck and would prefer to stick to ATs. I will do a search for the LTBs and take a look - Thanks

I think denman makes their coyote, more of a road tire, in a 265/85 (36x10. 5).

RKohn - I went to the Denman Tire website and did not see the coyote series tire - they seem to make a lot of industrial and agricultural tires.

Yeah the swampers are very agressive. I'll try and check with my jeep buddies and see if they know of anything.

A guy I work with runs Pro Comp AT 315/75 16's on his 97 2500 with stock rims. He has something like 35k on them, wearing well in my mind. They may bulge a bit, and a little more when he tows, but he has gotten a number or miles out of them so take that as you will.

You might try some 295 / 75 / r16 tires. Several manuf's make them.

Tom - Those ProComp ATs are the exact tires I am considering - I was just worried about running those wide tires on my 6. 5 inch rims...

I am running Bridgestone Dueler ATs (285-75 R16) right now and have about 35,000 miles on them with maybe 10,000 left if I am lucky.

Well after doing some more reading (here and elsewhere on the internet) I have decided on the Toyo M55s - 255/85-R16s. They are a little taller than my 285/75s and about 1. 5 inches narrower. Looks like most folks are getting good mileage out of these Toyo M55s. The 255/85-R16s are not a commonly stocked tire and will have to be ordered.



FWIW - The Bridgestone Revo Duelers did not hold up as well as my old set of same size non-Revo Duelers. Same truck, same rotation schedule, and same air pressure. I got a little over 50K out of my old set of Duelers. I mentioned this to a buddy of mine that runs a Firestone shop and he said that he has noticed this on other customers trucks as well.
