I am going to do the fronts on my 97 3500 for the first time. I am wondering if the rotor removal etc is the standard?

" remove grease cap, cotter pin, loosen nut and off she comes from the spindle"?

Or is there some un-forseen that I should know? It looks like the standard type, but better to ask then to get myself in a pinch.

What size is the spindle nut?

Thanks in advance for your help. Ed

Spindle nut is 1 5/16 or 1 3/8's if memory serves. The socket I use for it is so old, I think the size markings are scratched off.

Remove the two pin/bolts that retain the caliper, suspend with some wire and go to it. Now is an excellent time to remove the slider pins and inspect and relube them. Replace them if they are sticky, pitted or worn. Long brake life is directly commiserate to the caliper being able to float.

The Federal Mogul seal number is 4740, should you drive it out the back to re-pack the bearings etc.

When I retighten my nut/bearings I snug it up then back the nut off and then tighten it in small increments until I just remove the play. . I think the spec. is . 002-. 003.

Good luck.

Andy
