I just received a 3K gsk kit and was wonderign about how it works. Right now, when I stand on it, my truck seems to poop out about 3000-3100 rpm..... what does the 3K gsk do? I understand that it is a 3K governor spring set, but if I am already getting power to 3000rpm, what is going to change? I know that my truck does not already have a governor spring kit so what am I missing here? Thanks

As I understand it the stock gov. springs start to cut but fuel back over 2200-2300 rpms. The 3K GSK allows full fuel upto around 3000 rpms.

The governor is just a couple of matched weights opposite each other that spin around a shaft. They are connected by linkages to the rack. The linkages are also connected to the throttle. As the pump spins faster, the weights fly outward, away from the shaft. As they do, they'll pull the rack back to reduce fueling. But, as the engine slows, the weights move closer to the shaft via the springs. This causes the rack to move forward and increasing fueling. Your foot on the throttle just adjusts this sequence up or down the fueling range as needed.

The spring kit (which contains stiffer springs) simply force the weights to stay closer to the shaft in the upper rev range allowing the rack to continue to provide fuel to the engine at higher revs than the stock springs. Why it's called a "3K" kit is unknown, but you should be able to get 3500 revs +/- out of your engine before it begins to defuel with the kit.

At least, that's how I understand it!

the 3kgksk is prob the best mod ever for the 12 valvers. :D before i added the govenor springs to my truck is defuled really hard around 2700 rpms, now it doesnt defuel till about 3400-3600. plus, it allows for a better powerband in your tq & horsepower curves!

cmartin you have a 215 from what i understand those dont start to defuel until about 2600 rpm since you already have the spring kit install it if not you can try to tighten your stock springs 2 clicks each and you should be able to fuel pretty close to 3k i maybe wrong but we did that to my friends 96 and noticed a difference
