Question about Brake Lights On Camper Shells??

Looks like I am going to be getting a camper shell here in the next couple of weeks.



My questions are,



Where do you tie into the trucks wiring system for the LED brake light that's located on the camper shell?, and do I need to be concerned with the finicky wiring systems found on the 3rd gen trucks?.



Also where is the best place to get a power source for the dome light inside the shell?.

If I were you... I'd buy one of the wiring harnesses designed to break into the circuit to the trailer harness at the trailer hitch..... draw tite makes one that has both the male and female connector on it... . and it has the 4 wires required to run a shell... . this would be clean... and would use the trailer wiring circuit already in the truck... .

I just had an A. R. E. cap installed. There is a single wire in the harness that goes to the trailer harness Dodge puts there for the high mounted brake light. All you have to do is plug into it & run a ground.

There is a small 1 wire plug under the bed in the back of the truck that is made to tie into. At least on my 2006!

the shell 3rd brake light wire is under the truck. . look for the white/tan wire. . according to the wiring schematic, it is tee'd into the factory center high mounted brake light... . it is fused [#24 15A]

That wire will just be sticking out of the wiring harness about 3 inches long and will have a heat shrink cap on it... if it was like mine... very apparent when you know what you're looking for...

I just bought a used shell. It was an A. R. E so it had the harness to tie into. I wasn't sure where to tie into in the rear brake light and trailer harness, so I tied into my brake light and dome light on the back of my cab. Dome light turns on with my cargo lamp, and brake light works perfectly with my brake lights.

Before you install the cap, take the bulbs out of roof mounted brake light.
