After the warm reception i received after my first post, i took all the information i recieved and went shopping. I contacted benny boyd in texas and got a quote of $30000 for a 2500 4x4 lwb with a 5sp and just about every option except leather. that price includes a $1000 rebate which will end on Jan 8, 2001. should i take this price or wait and see if DC will offer something better after this special ends?

Brian, you may want to go for it,typically Thanksgiving to the week after New Years is the slowest time of year for auto sales, that's why the rebate ends when it does. The salesmen are eager to deal so they can eat. The price seems good. Get them to throw in a service manual ,bug guard, bed rail guards or any other lower cost items you might want. When it comes time to sign the bottom line say that it's more than you wanted to spend right now and walk out. Sometimes they don't let you walk out, other times they wait till you get in your car to leave before reeling you back in,either way it's good for $1000. Keep doing this till they quit chasing you down, then you know you got the best deal possible. Don't let them know that you really like the truck you're looking at,make them think that you are settling for something less, different color, six speed etc that a dealer in another town has. Remember you're the one in charge, don't let them make you do something you're not comfortable with. All this is assuming you are buying a truck off the lot,if you are special ordering you lose a lot of bargaining power. The only way to get a good deal with these guys is to BS a little.
Good luck

Brian; Sounds like a decent deal,a couple of things to consider. Don't know about Texas, Missouri personal property tax is on anything you own on Dec. 31st. If youbuy in Jan, no tax for year 2000. Also, $1000. rebate helps but the currant low finance rates will save you ALOT more than that if you are financing. Good Luck!Steve Weeks

brian, i shopped all over Tx and benny boyd gave me the best price. In addition, my wife works for TxDOT enforcing the lemon law/dealer licensing,etc... and they have a good record as far as customer service goes... tell them D Murdock referred you and i'll split the $100 finders fee.

hehehe

Please tell, how do keep from letting them know you like the truck with your hands shaking, eyes tearing, spit running out of the corner of your mouth, that inability to remove yourself from the truck, and the heavy breathing.
Huh. How do you do it?

Brian: I buy all my trux @ Bossier Country in Fairfield. Ask for Johnny Bennett, he is the Gen. Sales Mangler. Tell him I sent you. He will fax you the invoice. The truck will be sitting there just like he said and the deal will be just like you agreed and it will be FULL of fuel. Don't forget about the Farm Bureau or Commercial discount. 1 800 BOSSIER and no I do not get a Bird Dog fee. They offered, but I declined. I also send all my RV customers there. Good luck!

Preston,I know it's hard. You just have to become as good of a BSer as the salesmen. I've seen those salesmen fake tears and whine about how they can't pay the rent every time you get them to knock the price down. Afterwards you see them driving a Mercedes to the golf course.

Brian, sounds like a great deal. The only problem is not letting them know how much you want the truck and how excited you are about it. Still waiting for my factory order to show up--not many fingernails left!!!

Brian,

Did you mention if the truck was a 2001 or a 2001. 5 ? There is a difference. Small, but it helps the bottom line. You should be able to grind them further on a 2001...

I really like Illflem's bulldog ferocity with the salesmen. But you should be prepared with the Invoice prices off the internet, not what the dealer gives you. I just don't trust them. Any wonder?

The price sounds good, but 3 month's ago I got mine, loaded with EVERYTING and then some, and got it for $34K out the door, (with a full tank of fuel!) ordered exactly the way I wanted it. And I know I could have gotten it for a bit less (maybe up to 1K) if I wanted to chew into the dealer holdback, etc.

My . 02 says don't get attached to one particular truck. You'll end up paying more. Order one out. If you take one off the lot, you will more than likely have to compromise somewhere.

What the other writer said about Texas' taxing might be worth considering? Also, the way the economy, election and everything else is headed, I would bet that Dealers are going to be begging for customers. Seen reports on TV that they already are and they have a backstock and they are looking at the slowest time of year for them.

It's a buyer's market. Use it to your best advantage, and good luck!

As for the property tax, here in Texas it only applies to a truck used in a business. I have to get the NADA value on mine every year as of Jan. 1 in order to render it on my business property tax rendition. Private (non-commercial) owners are not taxed.

SA Law,
You left out one important item on your truck description... is it a quadcab or reg cab? If it is a 2500 quadcab 4x4 5spd with everything but leather, then $30,000 is a very, very good price. I bet with those options it stickers for $35k,right? If you're getting almost $5,000 off of sticker, then you are getting a great deal... and if the truck has everything you want, then by all means get it. Why wait for an order?
The $1000 rebate is probably going to be the best offer from DC. I have never seen them give more than that for a full-size truck.

Good luck
-Mike
