I am hearing that there is an oil additive you have to add to the exhaust or your not going to move the vehical at a normal speed if this fluid gets low or run out.

I have a 2010 3500 6. 7 dually and it only say's you should drive it at high way speed alot and not just local drive or it will slow down.

I had a 2004 2500 5. 9 and it had nothing like this.

Did this just come out?

The guy I am working for said he wold buy a new diesel but he does not want to add this fluid.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like he is talking of "Diesel Exhaust Fluid" which is added to a special tank on many new trucks. Dodge does not use this fluid on pickups but I think maybe the cab & chassis trucks use it.

Your truck does have a diesel particulate filter as part of the emission control and yes, driving slow most of the time may cause need for the filter to be cleaned by hand instead of the computer cleaning it by regeneration.

Godspeed,

Tell your boss not to worry about it, DEF usage is very small. He has the choice between DEF or poorer mileage and a $100 oil change every 3000 miles. It is the future of NOX emission control.
