Bought a 26 foot toy hauler yesterday after two years thinking and looking. We pick it up on thursday. Would like to get gauges put in my truck before I pick it up. The first tow will just be to my house, do you think I need to get the gauges before I pick it up or just before our first real trip? Can I get away with a 15 mile flat tow home without???

I was thinking I would only get egt and transmission temp gauges unless I absolutely should have the third one. What type of gauges do you guys recommend? I would like to get ones that match my dash and are good quality.

Mounting locations? I have electric shift 4x4 otherwise I like the 3 gauges in that location. I dont want to loose my A pillar handle.

I live in Southern California. Is there any shops around that are reputable to install the gauges for me. I have a broken leg and can't do it right now.

I see you are fairly new to the board so for us to help you, you need to help us 1st by filling in your truck signature. If you are only going to pick up the trailer and bring it home from 15 miles away empty I would not worry about it. But yes you should get some gauges, before you really start doing some hauling I would go with egt, boost, and fuel, if you want transmission that's your choice. As far as gauges go I like the Isspro white faced gauges, and the rainbow egt from them. That's my choice. And as far a mounting you can just about mount them where ever you want them. On the A post, dash,on the roof consol, or the cubby hole. As a mounting location I my self like the dash mount, along with one on the steering column or you can just mount one on the a pillar if you wish.

As far as dealer out your way IM clueless someone else may be able to help you there. I hope this helps ya some. Good luck with the trailer.

TPappas,

Nothing to worry about as long as you are not over the GVW. Quite sure that Cummins would have advocated gauges if this was a serious issue. These new trucks do run hotter than the previous 1st. and 2nd. generation trucks though. Certainly one cannot go wrong in installing boost, pyro. & trans. temp gauge's if it gives you more peace of mind.

Hi TP, I just mounted a 3 gauge set in the cubby hole just beneath the radio. I used an Autometer gauge pod and Dipricol gauges. The Dipricol gauges are factory for Caterpillar and you can order them to match the Dodge gauges. White faced and green backlit at night.

If you install them yourself do a search for places to mount the exhaust tempature probe. I drilled the center of the flat (side area) just above the turbo. Bad area to drill. Turned out there is a plentium there and the manifold is divided as it dumps into the turbo. Cylinders 1, 2 and 3 dump into the front half of the manifold turndown and 4, 5 and 6 dump into back half of the turndown. Forced me to go out and buy an ATS exhaust manifold :) . Good Luck.
