I am planning on buying a 12 valve this spring. Thinking about going with an auto transmission after hearing all the good things about GB trannies. I called him today. What a great guy he is. He told me about the trannies and his thoughts on this issue, but I was wondering if anybody had some hands-on with this question. I am going to be hopefully putting out 500-550hp. I won't be drag racing. Doing some decent towing and maybe a couple local pulls in the summer. I am planning on getting a transmission from him and then an ATS flexplate. My concern is do I need any of the billet shafts? I would love to have them, but the cost is the only problem. Can I get away with using the regular shafts or maybe getting one of the billet shafts? Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

From what ive seen, 400hp is about the limit on the input shaft. Not sure about the output shaft. I dont have anything like that in mine, only making about 280-300hp...

good luck

From my auto transmission reading I would NOT skip the input shaft while getting a trans built. If the input breaks it can do A LOT of expensive damage inside from what I've heard.

The intermediate and the output are something to discuss again with Dave, the output some people skip on but if it breaks it won't damage anything from what I've read... you'll just need a new one.

I would do as much as many shafts as the wallet allows, the intermediate would require a tear down if you ever wanted/needed to upgrade. I am pretty sure that you can do an output with the transmission still in the truck though? :confused:

Wish I also had heard about Dave Georend before I spent several thousand dollars more on my manual trans truck, than the THREE! automatics I found that I liked but skipped b/c of the slushbox. :rolleyes: Put it this way I could have paid cash for any of them, I had to take out a small loan to get my 5spd. :rolleyes: :{
