Question about GVW/GCVW

I went in to relicense my truck today and they very nice DOL woman asked me what I wanted my truck listed at. The price was exactly the same no matter what weight I chose. I picked 24000#

Was that the right thing to do? I had never given it any thought but I figured at that weight, I'd never be overweight.
