Hello everyone, I was wondering if any of you 2nd generationers had their rockerpanel sprayed with Line-X and was wondering how it has held up over the years? Anyone have any poblems with rust /corrosion underneath the Line-X? Mine does not have any mudflaps and as a result a lot of stonechips, but really no rust, this would be a good solution, but was wondering if the stuff held up over the years. Hate to find out that people's fenders are rotting out underneath their line-X, would you do it again?

Thanks Pete

I'm sure it holds up good. Main thing is you need to clean and sand the paint underneath good before applying the line-x... Only way this will bubble is if you dont have a good clean rough surface and no rustout on the inside or the door skin. .

I've had linex in the bed and over the rails for 100K miles (since mid 1998).

love it

oh, I live in Oregon so you can hardly get a better rust test than that

I have had mine rockers done for about 7 months but so far I love and would do it again in a heart beat. I color matched mine and it gets a lots of compliments.

I've got some rust above my wheel wells and was considering having them line-x'd and was quoted $1200 to do the wheel wells and rockers. If I go ahead with the rockers he said i could get the bed done over the rails for $400. . they also indicated that there is no warranty on the exterior liner. . only the box. How well does the line-x cover rust? Its just surface rust so I would think if they properly prepped the vehicle it work properly...

I still beleive that the type of liner you use is should be dependant on your installer in your area. A good portion of the liners are good but some are just put on by bad installers. As far as the rust goes my line-x dealer said it would have to be cleaned and prepped before he would spray it. If warranty is an issue look other places other than line-x. Line-x was way more expensive than the other places in town and the other place said they would warranty the color and the finish. If you are stuck on line-x or if it is your only option make sure you do your homework on their craftmanship before you buy their expensive non-warrantied rocker covering. It is a good product but there are other good products too. Just my . 02

Pete,

I was in your exact same situation with my truck and had the rockers sprayed black (didn't feel the need to go color-matched even though I'm sure it would look great). You can probably see what mine looks like in my gallery, the pic with the MINI probably shows it best. It almost looks like a reflection off of the blacktop most of the time. I had heavy chipping but no rust on the rockers. The bed had some rust and my local installer did the prep work as part of the job. My OTR bedliner was $420 and the rocker work added $200. The thickness sprayed on the bed was 1/4" but the rockers were a little over an 1/8" thick. The installer said that he is technically not supposed to warranty the work on the rockers but warrantied it (written).

Time will tell how well they hold up but it has been six months with no compaints.

IMHO, the texture of the Line-X as installed on my truck is worth ever penny. I see some of the Rhino linings in the area and the Ziebart and really don't prefer them. Again, just my humble opinion.

Regards,

John

Thanks everyone for the replies, had Line-X in my '96 and it held up great, had the bedliner done in my 2002, I 'll go and see how much they want to do the wheelwells and rockers, will let you know how it comes out.

Thanks again Pete
