I have read a lot about the common problems that people talk about but one has me thinking. How can the P7100 drop its idle speed over time? It would seem that the only way would be for the povit points on the Gov arms wear slightly, or the gears on the plungers wear, or the Idle springs loose tension??

so my question is this is it more proper to adjust the idle stop screw to bump up the idle OR should the idle springs (outermost springs in the gov spring pack) be shimmed or just screw down the nuts a click more???

There is also wear where the idle adjustment bolt and the throttle linkage touch at idle. It only takes a small amount of adjustment of the bolt to change the idle speed.

Second what Mr Moeller said. It's very normal to have to bump up your idle every 6 months to a year 100rpms or so. The point where the idle screw makes contact just gets a bit worn down and needs to be brought out some. Nothing unusual.
