I just traded my 05 3500 quad cab slt in on an 07 2500 mega cab larmie and the dealer says that there is ULSD oil that i have to use in the new 6. 7 motor. Also a friend of mine just had his oil changed for the first time in his 08 3500 and said that i was over $100 at the dealer. So if anybody can give me some info about this that would be great.

Yes you will need to run the oil that is a CJ Valvoline Premiun Blue 15-40 or the new oil PBX or the oil you chose to run. As longe as it is a CJ diesel oil The 06 down ran the CI-4-Plus oil witch is hard to fine. I run the CI-4-+ in my 03. I thank it is around 18. 00 per gal. You can by your filters at most parts stores. I by the pack from GENO'S. they have a good deal on there filters it is called 4-2-1 they have them for 5/9 or 6/7 The 6/7 is 91. 95 and 5/9 is 84. 95 Good luck--Ben

used valvoline true blue 15 w 40 cj 4 at 7,000 miles in 08 6. 7 and installed a fs 2500 remote filter did a oil sample a 7,000 and it checked out normal will run a little longer seems 6. 7 soots up faster due to ultra fine soot particulates dont know how effective the fs 2500 is, it doesnt seem to retain much soot

yet change fuel filter at 15,000 it was way overtight use the socket indention on the bottom of fuel filter housing using barlows procedures

delo and rotella are good oils too

We have an 08 5500 with 50K on the clock... we used the standard oil we've always used in our trucks until the barrel was empty and the replacement now meets the new standard... we've not had a problem and run 7500 miles between changes... we've not had the oil change indicator light come on since we bought the truck...

We're trying to decide if it would be cost effective to move to a 10K change... for us... that's still 5 or 6 changes a year based on the mileage we put on these trucks... we keep the trucks for 500K and haven't had problems... except by than the body, seat, and most everything else in the truck is worn except for the engine... .

Jim, you probably know better than most, but the local service manager at Navistar says not to try and extend oil intervals with the new engines. Of course, he's oriented mostly to class 8 engines, but he seems to feel like the CJ oil being inferior in some respects and the soot loading is a good reason not to extend. We had extended our intervals when CI oil was available, but are considering shortening the interval with the CJ.

Duty service is important as an engine sitting around with old oil is the worst possible thing, but I doubt your rig has much chance to sit.

If you have the deletes ,EGR & DPF I would run the Amsoil 15w40. If you do not have the deletes run the Amsoil DPF friendly oil.

What drives my thoughts are 1 - cost per mile, and 2 - logic... we try and keep our light stuff 500K miles... I agree with sitting rigs tend to have more problems than ones that run... . We don't start and stop ours... when we start a truck it mostly runs all day with the heater or AC running... . I've often gone in for a bite to eat and let it run with the key fob in my pocket and the door locked...

We don't use special brand oils, just what meets the spec's... same with filters...

I'm also betting Cummins, and CAT spent a lot of money working with the oil people developing oils that will do the job... remember that on most class 8 trucks the oil life is 25-40K miles.....

I expect to see, down the road vehicle inspection on diesels, like the cars, so if the equipment isn't on the truck and functions there are fines, and no tags... our local inspection right now is a simple one... . but they say things are changing... with this in mind I'm guessing we wouldn't do the deletes...
