Maximum Trailer Weight Rating ?

I need to swap the axles on my gooseneck from on top of the springs to under the springs due to the height of my truck. Can I just flip the axles upside down and use the same spring perches, or do I need to weld new perches on top of the axles. The axles have electric brakes, so I didn't know if they would work upside down or not. Thanks for any respones.

Almost all trailer axles have camber built into them. Therefore, you would need to relocate the spring perch to the top of the axles if you relocate the axles under the springs. If you have Dexter axles, Dexter has kits available for this procedure.

Thanks

That is what I figured, so thanks for the conformation guys. It would be way to easy just to flip'em upside down. Oh well, back to the welding shop we go.

I recenlty purchased 91 30' hitchhiker 5th wheel and had to lift it. I used the dexter kit and it was a piece of cake. their kit has long nuts that sit on the old mounts to make sure you are parallel then tack weld the new mounts after. I had to extend the brake wires. I had shocks so that was a problem, had to cut the upper mounts off and reposition and weld them back on so the same shocks would work on the other side of the axle.

Re: Thanks

I installed these kits back in 96 on my last 5er, no welding required. The hardest part was jacking the camper up (in my stone driveway, on a hill) so both axles were off the ground.

never looked into this. . but thought I'd ask here

I have a Dually and am going to get a G/N 28 / 30' with beavertail and would like it to have hubs that will take my Dually rims and be hubcentric like the dually [want spares to fit rig and G/N] not sure if I'm going after a dual tandem yet or not... can a guy get this when ordered. . again haven't looked into this yet.

You don't say what kind of axles you have, but be sure you don't weld a Torflex axle.

Dexter's Torflex axles use rubber inserts for the suspension. Heating the tube by welding will probably ruin them. Dexter warns against welding their Torflex axles.

I would go with the Dexter adapters. I cut and rewelded the perches on the first trailer I converted. Used the Dexter kits on the last one and it was very easy.
