i know i am going to catch hell for asking, but here it goes...

with a COMP W/ pump wire and stock transmission, is it the lock-up feature and heavy towing that will toast my stock transmission or will i toast it no matter what the conditions are? (tow or no tow, fluid coupling or lock-up) , cause its killin me not to hook up the wire!!!, and the wallet is too dry to dtt stuff

thanks putting up with me (cause i know that this has been asked before)

BTW. . with the warm weather, i have finally been able to make a bit of smoke... problem is now i always feel the need to punch it from a stop and glance at the right mirror to check how much, or course with a ear to ear grin

I've been running with mine for the last 6 months no problem. Everyday driving is on 3/5. I tow a 10K fiver and don't tow above 2/5. It would be REALLY easy to trashed the transmission while towing in the higher setting.

I have made "several" runs on 5/5(empty) and as long as it's in lockup and it don't slip too much, transmission temp stays under control. The higher setting aren't good for it I'm sure and there is potential for damage. I've been a little harder on it lately as I'm going to get a performance transmission very soon!!!:D :D :D

Hope it helps,

Glenn

GLENN:

thanks for the info, so I assume you have a transmission temp gauge installed?? or is there someother way you are getting the trans fuild temp?...

i don't think i can stand it anymore, knowing that the power is there and not being used,

also someone told me that if my injection pump doesn't die within 10-20 minutes of comp install, than it should be a healthy one,

question is: can i assume that my pump can take the stress of the higher settings because it hasn't failed yet?

thanks

I had my Comp box WITHOUT the wire hooked up in my truck for about 1 day before it started slipping!! This was empty. I could make the transmission slip by just rolling into the throttle at about 50 mph. When I had the trans rebuilt by DTT 4 weeks later, there was indication of the 2 gear band and the overdrive cluthes slipping.

No you CAN"T! Long story short, when you hook up the pump wire, the Comp will hold the pump's fuel selenoid (sp?) open longer in order to give you more fuel. From what I understand this can lead to pump heating up and seizing (it's lubricated and cooled by #2) appenrently due to low tolerences in the pump and some quality control issues in the early ones. (98. 5, 99)

I was told the same thing, if it's going to fail, it will do it in the hour of use on the higher settings, mine still going so far. If you don't have gauges, I would put them in before hooking it up, EGT's can become a concern in the higher setting, if you tow with the COMP you absolutely NEED them. Exhaust & air filter mods help a lot in the EGT departement. See sig for my set up.

What kind of temp do you get with the wire? I'm looking at intalling a Blue Chip Pump cover tomorrow and I was wondering about the Temps without pulling anything. Is it safe to hook the wire up w/o gauges. Monday the 29th it goes in to have gauges installed and I'm worried about temps until then.

p. s. I drive with my foot to the floor at all times. So what do you think. .

I can peg my EGT guage(1600*) for short amout of times on 5/5 then it's start backing off, but remains fairly high (1400/1500)

It would be asking for trouble, IMHO.

I am planning to install a Comp with the Blue Chip pump cover, DDII's and a full set of gauges in a week or two and my trans is stock. I plan to take it easy on things till I get the trans done. Or if I have problems I will get the trans done sooner rather than later :)

just remember before you respond, I am what I eat!!!!!

YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!!!!!

Just call me a wussy, but I know I would toast my transmission. If you got the money to do BOMBs, I would just spend it on the transmission if i could go back and do it again.

Andrew

Yes, yes I do.

Well... ... . maybe not. I've been gettin' the itch to hook it up lately. But with a 6 spd, it's not as risky. I can turn it back down to where it does'nt slip. But with a auto, you may not even be able to tell if your cooking it. I would wait and save your money and upgrade your transmission first. JMHO.

Brian

The problem with doing the trans upgrades first is that if you do not know how much power you are going to make you do not know where to have the trans set up at.

Plus if you did the trans first with stock powr it might be a bit of a dog.

Those temps are with stock injectors. Hope to be able to do the transmission and injectors all at once.

Go ahead hook it up, doing the transmission first is no fun;) :D . Gotta see what a stock transmission can hold for the benefit of others... ... like the T-shirt says... If your not living on the edge your taking up too much space... ...

Andrew do you feel better now that you have some company on the wussy bench... ... . :p :p ;)
