I am not familiar with the 12 valve. i know the 24 valve has a lot of problems... fuel pumps and track bars. do you people have the same or similar problems. I'm not sure but i think your stuff is still mechanical. I'm sure this question has been asked before.

Three letters.

KDP

That's probably the biggest problem us "properly valved :)" folks have. Lickily, we have CPFF and his KDP jig and The KDP tab to take care of that problem.

Other than that, I can't think of any major problem the 12 valve engine has.

As far as the rest of the truck, I don't think there is much of a difference between the 12 and 24 valve trucks besides the engine and interior. I could be wrong.

killer dowel pin

The front cover is aligned with dowel pins the top one on the 12v engine and early 24vs was not covered by the cover and so the pin can work out and fall in to gear train and cause major damage and big $ to fix . I have a 99 and should check mine but have not yet, front cover's used after 99 were improved to cover the pin so not to move.

That is the story as I know it.

To solve your track problems put on a Luke's Link. See the ad in the TDR I put one on my truck 20,000 miles ago it's rebuildable yourself without ever having to remove the track bar from the truck when ever it needs it. To rebuild it you use simple washers to preload the ball and socket.

I'm starting to think the kdp isn't the problem that it's been made out to be. On the poll asking what year folks have had failures only 28 people have said they've had a failure, that has to be way less than 1% of the 12 valvers here. At least it's easy to prevent and should be done unlike the 24 valve lift pump problem which seems to have no long lasting cure.

The fuel shut down problem is just a wearing out part situation, unlike a design flaw, that can usually be fixed with less than $25 in parts, or just a $20 pull cable to bypass any electrical parts.

TPS Problem

The subject of TPS comes up regularly. It would be refreshing to hear if DC finally fixed this annoying little snafu for the 24 valve folks.

Think the tps problem may be worse for 24 valvers since the tps is also used on manual trans 24 valves. I know they talk about bad tps's over in the 24 v forum quite often. Most times tps problems are just dirt that needs to come off.

another difference is the 24v's have a big problem coming down from a full throttle romp above about 400HP. they will buck harder than a wild mustang :D

i peronally made the choice to come back to the 12v's after hitting the wall of mods to the 24valver 469HP on #2 only. it was either anti up with a ton more money or stop there. that combined with the cab not being big enough was enough to make me sell the over-priced 24valver and pick up this one for half the money. the other half I will use to make my cab plenty big enough for a family of four like Dodge has failed to do to date.
