Re: 48RE Slipping

Blakers asked whether anyone has experienced any slipping with the 48RE. I believe I have. The truck is only a week old and its happened about 3 times, but not consistently. It happens when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under hard acceleration. It has happened under load and under no load. Basically revs like its missed a gear and when I get off the throttle it immediately shifts. Fluid is fine.

Anyone else out there seeing the same thing???

I've noticed that, under foot-on-the-floor accelleration, the transmission will nearly red-line before shifting - but shift it will! :D

With a fast foot, you can pick your own shift point simply by lifting part-way for an instant. ;)

I'm not positive, but I think that this may be a "feature" built in for towing.

[In Computer terms a "Feature" is a bug that they don't know how to fix! :-laf ]

Actually RM, it does not seem like standard foot to the floor shifting in my case. When the trans is just about ready, or begins to shift, from 2nd to 3rd, there is an instantaneous increase in RPM along with a noticible decrease in accelleration. Again, I can't make it happen consistently so that makes me think something is not right with the torque converter... maybe?

It might not be mechanical.

It may be a programmed delay.

It almost sounds like the description of the way that the ECM was "flashed" to hold the engine speed high a bit longer when a manual transmission was being shifted.

You might want to have the dealer check the "codes". (There are a few that only their readers will pick up. )

Mine will occasionally make a "sloppy" shift into lockup or overdrive. It has only occurred during a light throttle, unloaded situation. This is during the last shift at about 50 mph. If you are on the throttle, or towing it seems to shift fine every time. Under light throttle unloaded it will sometimes shift a little sloppy.

I will probably have one of the techs check it out next time I'm by the dealer. Not too worried about it at this point. I'm still getting used to electronic shift points. For the most part I'm liking how it is programmed.
