Hey guys,

Rolled my 07 5. 9 dually last week, I'm allright, just a bit sore, lucked out, friend was driving it :-{}, hit some snow, she fishtailed and the rest is history:{.

Anyway, waiting to hear from insurance if they are going to total it. In the mean time, thinking of saving money and going back to a HEMI, or doing the 2500 6. 7. I was only getting 14 mpg with my dually, what kind of mileage are you guys seeing, (no bull**** please). I have alot farther drive to work now and don't want the same mileage a HEMI will give me, cause I could buy that for alot cheaper. I am liking most of what I am hearing about the 6. 7. I did enjoy the simplicity of the 5. 9, but would stay diesel if I can make it work.

Thanks for any help.....

11-16 unloaded

more around 11 most of the time since most of my driving is local in town driving

I have seen 18 mpg once or twice on long hwy driving

while towing 9k I was 9-11 mpg

Over 26,000 miles my total average is 14 mpg all types of driving. Towing, hot rodding, hwy. You get the picture.

I'm getting 15-16 MPG with my 6. 7 SRW so I'd say to expect around 14 MPG unloaded with a DRW. That's driving unloaded combination City/Highway. I haven't pulled a heavy load a long enough distance to get a read on that.

Man... . My 6. 7 Drinks it up 13. 1 seems to be the simplest wat to say it, no load in town driving it like an old lady. I am almost certain if I straight pipe it ,it will get considerably better mpg. After I straight piped my 2 other 5. 9's I Saw 18-19mpg. originally they got about 15 but they don't have the regen cycles.

Mine is reading 9. 0 right now! best ever was 14. 7 hwy. got a friend with the new hemi and it gets 19 hwy and 14 in town.

thanks guys, this helps. I read a few other threads on mileage also. Seems alot of guys are dissappointed. It's sad the days of 20mpg are gone with the old 12 valvers (hp costs mpg). I'll wait to see what the insurance company does with the truck and do some thinking and make up my mind. The price of diesel doesn't look like it will ever be lower than gas again.

First tank yielded 17. 8 mpg hand calculated on an interstate trip. Winterized fuel and daily driving on short trips has consistently been 15. 7-16. 0 unloaded running 60 mph average. Haven't pulled hard yet, but nearing 6000 miles and seeing mileage creeping up.

All stock and power is great and is a quiet ride, even more than my brothers 06 5. 9. All updates were done on mine as of the end of December and so far no trouble. I don't buy fuel from discount stations and have always done it that way to reduce risk.

Yes - I don't like how the government has affected our vehicles, I like to do my own work and have been involved with diesels my entire career first as a mechanic, trade school instructor, and now an engineer. I have mixed feelings that go beyond mileage and power - and the rediculous prices we pay for fuel, which may affect how long I own my truck, especially how it skyrocketed right after I bought it.

I may even write to my congressman or more than one. We talk about the government, it might be worth it to let them know what we think. Here's one place to make contact with them:

I have a 2007. 5 dually quad cab 4X4 with 3. 73 rear end. The lie-o-meter gas computer says I am getting about 12. 3. I do mostly short trips in town, with a lot of stop and go driving.

However, I am tickled pink to get this good of mileage considering the truck weighs 8100 pounds and has all that regen crap on it!!!!!

Had and F-250 gasser that weighed only 6000 pounds and all I could get was 11. 0 HIGHWAY!!!!!!!

That's not true (hp costs mpg). Every time I've upgraded the performance of my two trucks fuel mileage has improved.

I attribute this to the fact that Cummins has retarded injection timing in order to meet emissions standards. This retarded timing causes the fuel to burn less efficiently than it would at optimum timing, but certain emissions are lowered. One thing that (almost?) all of the performance devices do is advance the injection timing back to a more optimum setting. This increases fuel mileage as well as horsepower.

What costs "mpg" is not "hp", but emissions standards.

Our congresses have lost sight of the fact that we are paying for cleaner air not only with dollars, but also with more emissions from the extra trucks and trains needed to deliver the additional fuel to the gas stations and more dependency on middle-eastern oil. The law of unintended consequences is alive and well in Congress.

I just came back from a trip that was about 470 miles each way.

On the way down to Maryland from Ct, I got a hand calculated 17. 81 miles per gallon and that was with a brand new vehicle. It's a 2008, 4x4 Quad Cab, Long Bed, Laramie with the 6. 7 and 3. 73 gears, 68 rfe etc...

The return trip yielded slightly less at 17. 6 miles per gallon. I hope it will match the mileage of my 1993 that consistently got about twenty miles per gallon. It did however take me until about 20,000 miles to realize that kind of mileage so I'm actually ahead of where I was with the 1993. I hope this helps.

Put 300 miles on my 07. 5 this weekend in/around town/freeway, Hat the G30 and the AV flash Thursday last week. Was at 14. 5 previously on the same run, now am at 18. 1. This is Hand calc too.

The truck has 8500 on it and NO mods.

I'm impressed with the truck, my friends are too (Some of them drive Power Smokes)

The number of miles driven divided by the gallons put into the fuel tank. I'm a smart ***. The 'lie-o-meter' on mine is off 1. 1 mpg to the poor side. I reset the 'lie-o-meter' about once every month or so, I'll get dramatic swings in the mileage observed on it, the average comes out pretty close though.
