flex a lite elec fans

my experience with these fans are mixed, stock fan pulls max 1000 cfm, twin elec 650, south ga summer towing 15k total (truck and trailer) a/c got weak. I installed a pusher elec fan (93 mb190 2. 3L) in front of condensor, elec motor behind front bumper. a/c issue solved. stock fan pulls 26 hp at max, dont know elec hp use at altenator. should be alot less

correction, my bad, stock 12v fan 10,000 cfm, f-a-l 262 5500 cfm. still big difference, 10,000 cfm equates to 35mph air column through 2 foot shroud opening, with no correction for drag or resistance to air flow through condenser/intercooler/radiator, dan
 
I tried the Flex-a-Lite dual electric fan setup on my 1996 V-10/47RE dually. They worked fine for mall cruising but absolutely would not cool the engine in Houston summertime stop-and-go traffic or on long grades in the Texas Hill Country when towing the 13,500 lb 5th wheel RV we had at the time. The Flex-a-Lites drew 100 amps - enough to draw down the battery when the truck was idling with the headlights, A/C, etc. on along with the fans. Unfortunately, 100 amps @ 12 volts = 1200 watts / 746 watts per horsepower = 1. 6 horsepower which simply wasn't enough to move the air required to cool the V-10 when towing heavy in the summertime.



After replacing the stock thermal clutch which had failed (thus, the reason for the electrics) with a lower temperature aftermarket version and reinstalling the mechanical fan, no more cooling problems.



So, I guess the success or failure of the electrics depends on how and where you use your truck.

perhaps one of the factors in achieving a sucessful conversion from mechanical cooling to electrical cooling is the amount of horsepower enhancement done to said engine, if my physics is correct, more fuel/air equals more horsepower equals more heat. i am in the 500 hp neighborhood, and hence needed more cooling power than 5500 cfm could provide, dan
