What do you typically see regarding fuel consumption at idle ? A few other members and myself were discussing this issue on another thread. I thought I saw figures here but couldn't find anything with a search ?

TIA !!!

Scott;

What answer are looking to get?

Give me a couple weeks and I'll get the data from ISC. We're running C8. 3G+ (compressed natural gas) right now.

PM me with your email and we'll discuss further.

Thanks John, PM sent. We were discussing idle time V. winter blend fuel trying to figure out how much the winter blend affects MPG. Basically, I like to see a figure on what a 24 valver burns at the stock idle setting per hr. or 1/2 hr. I'm forced to idle my truck about 30 minutes per day ( 10 @ the morning bus stop, 10@ the afternoon bus stop and usually 10@ at work before I leave). I always use the ebrake so I'm not concerned about wash down, just curious on how 30 minutes of idle time per day would affect my total MPG. I see about a 3-4 MPG drop each winter with the combo of the two each winter.

Thanks !

Scott, it's not much help, but when I had my big truck we figgered :D about 1 gallon an hour.

It was a very general figure, used by everyone for every rig.

The big engines back then were 855 cu in for the Cummins, the Mack was 676 cu in, I forget how many cu in the Cat engine was.

I dont see why our PU trucks would use more than 1/2 that.

Thanks Eric. I thought I recalled reading somewhere that the burn rate was about 1/2 gal. per hour, so I believe you are right on.

Find someone that has a boat. They have some pretty fancy shmancy flow gauges in some of the nicer yachts.

An industrious individual could probibally even adapt one to our trucks.

Just thinkin out loud again... ...

Eric

I was wondering, does the users of the Palm pilot software have the ability to see this (Quick Check) ?

Scott W.

Burn rate is very difficult to accurately meter on a flow thru pump system. The fuel in versus fuel out is a tough one.

In less than 2 weeks we'll be runnin ISC and I'll get the numbers off the Cummins Accumulator Pump System (CAPS) using our Insite Pro. I cannot remember the stuff available. Fuel consumption is not part of our OEM checkout.

My winter mileage really varies. It depends on how much I idle AND how much the Espar runs. I still get better mileage than the gassers so there.
