I have a '99 ETC 5 spd w/ DDIII's, Comp Box and a new, freshly broken in PDR HX40 w/ 16cm housing.

I did a test run tonight with Comp on 5-5 and pedal mashed to the floor. Max boost was 36-37 psi and EGT's would not budge past 1200*. Does my boost seem low? I thought it was as my PDR HX35 w/12cm housing would see 44 psi and VERY toasty egts... :D

Not a lot of experience with the HX40 yet but I can tell you what piers told me... ..... which was not to let boost go over 42 lbs period if I like my HX40... ... Now I didnt take him to mean it would disintegrate but that prolonged use above that boost level would not do it any good... ... . so it sounds like you are where you need to be... ... .

steve,

i decided to NOT pierce the wire on my eth.

this figure of 36-37 is not towing, about 8500 gvw, up slight incline. have hit 38 towing a few times. 36 is an everyday occurance

DZLPWR,

Your boost of mid to high 30's is fine for what your set up is, and is not on the low side.

The most I can usually hit is about 36psi with my PDRHX40/16, you can see my mods on the sig.

My gauge will spin really fast until about 38-39 psi, then it will slowly creep around to 40-41psi. You can probably get a couple of more psi by adjusting the wastegate a little, but if your EGTs are fine then I'd leave it as is. The lower pressures will only help the turbo.

Those numbers look about right to me... on 4x5 I see 36-38 psi and egt in the 1200 range. If I go to 5x5 I can get 40-41 psi and 1500 degrees because I have the drag version of the comp.

You went from a 12cm² housing to a 16cm² housing and your wastegate is most likely set to be fully open before 40psi. Besides, 38 psi from the HX40 is alot cooler air then 44psi from an HX35. Its a combination of those things that playing a part in the lower boost.
