Got a bussy of mine with a 92 CTD which seems to have a stumble or miss at crusing speed or around 2k rpms..... Sound like an injection pump problem to you guys?

Hey Timbeaux38 ... ... .

It would help a bit to know if there were/are any other symptoms..... still... I'd look at sticky injector(s)-run a serious double dose of injector cleaner thru it.

Next I'd look at the lift pump... pressure test is a good idea... it should be (new)12-13psi at idle and no less than 3psi at WOT.

Next item would be to make sure there are no bad/intermittent connections on the start/stop solenoid. It's located just above the high pressure head and has two leads on it. . one is black the other blue. Test both for current. One will show 12dcv with key on and the other will show approx 10dcv when engine is running.

Only after that would I even begin to look at the pump... . BTW, how many miles on the old girl???

What about smoke?? color?? All the time?? etc... .

pb... . :D

Change the fuel filter as part of the above checks.

Also, look at the two wires mentioned above and make sure that the crimp where the wire slides onto the solenoid tab is tight onto the solenoid tab. They vibrate at certain engine RRM's (resonance) and will actually open up - mine opened to the point that I was not getting adequate voltage and current into the solenoid. Closed the crimp up a bit and the entire stumble problem went bye - bye.
