i bought a walker 36 inch straight through muffler from napa (part # 21471). it's a straight through design(straight in and straight out). my problem is the muffler on the truck is offset. i'm planning on losing the cat(it's a farm truck) and just running the walker muffler. i have this same muffler on my 99 with a 4 inch system and it sounds awsome! no drone at all! the muffler cost me $86 at my local napa. i'll keep you all updated on the results after it's installed! TIA... . james :D

I put a 24" Magnaflow on my '03 QC 4X4. My system was 3 1/2" to the tailpipe, behind the muffler, where it expanded to 4". The header pipe, off the turbo, sometimes called the downpipe, I kept. I got a 3 1/2" to 4" reducer, which, I clamped to the down pipe. That went into the 4" Magnaflow. I got a section of 4" aluminized pipe and ran that back to the stock tailpipe. I cut the small 3 1/2" section off the tailpipe and welded the 4" section from the muffler to the tailpipe. It works. I did this because the Magnaflow System uses a 30" muffler, and I wanted a 24" muffler. Joe F. (Buffalo).

that muffler should work just fine I put a twister on my 600 not mutch drone it is a hellof a lot better than strait pipe. strait on the 600 is real raspy like a V10 gasser. I lost my cat early in the game I think it fell off  But all BS aside no mileage improvements. But it does sound pretty good

The way I had to do this same thing, leaving the cat on of course, was to swell the tailend of the muffler to 4. 5 inches. I had the local muffler shop do this for me. With the back end of the muffler swelled out, you can slightly angle the factory tail pipe section to match. It also gives your tailpipe a slight down-angle coming out which is a similar look to a 2nd gen. Doing all of this will result in having to weld it together. Good luck.

Since you're cat-less, go to a shop that can make you a pipe to replace the offset of the factory muffler. I replaced my factory muffler with a IMCO unit. Sounds good I've been told, really don't hear much from inside. Problem is now my tailpipe hangs about 4in lower than it should. That bugs the crap out of me. MNDOT seems to like pullinjg me over so I''m gonna keep my cat and I've got an inline brake so my only option is complete custom job, and the checkbook says WHOA!!! I actually had a straight through glasspack at first. Sounded soooo much better than what I've got now, but I tow too much for that drone.

P. S. I don't know if it's the IMCO or the half-*****ed hanging job I did, but I've got an annoying little hum at about 2700rpm. Whatever you do, get your hangers as close to factory as you can. Have fun. :)

Has anyone replaced their cat with an Aeroturbine and then replaced the muffler with the Geno's pipe? I would think the Aerotubine would keep the questions down about going "cat-less" and would prevent drone being closer to the downpipe. I live in a no-sniff state so that's no a problem. The AT should keep the state inspection sticker guys off my butt.

If you have done it, how's it sound and are there any bad vibes?

update on exhaust job...

well, no muffler shops would touch my exhaust!

i took it to a buddy. we cut the pipe right after the crossmember before the cat and removed the whole exhaust. took some prying but got the tailpipe out of the muffler. put the walker muffler on the tailpipe and slipped it back over the rear axel, connected the rear hanger, and supported the muffler with a jackstand. cut the 10 foot piece of 4 inch od pipe to 43 inches long. then we cut a 3 inch pice of 4 inch pipe and sliced it and reduced it's diameter so it would fit inside the down pipe. tacked it in half way and slipped the 43 inch piece of straight pipe into the muffler then over the tacked piece in the downpipe. next we welded it onto the downpipe and clamped the muffler to the tailpipe and straight pipe. over all job tood 2. 5 hours(we were on our backs in 30* weather). truck sounds sweet! no drone or rattles. from the outside the truck sounds like a truck but from the inside it's no louder but a deeper tone.

all in all this exhaust cost $86 for the muffler and $40 for 10 feet of 4 inch od straight exhaust pipe. we recycled the clamps from the old muffler.

oh, yea... that muffler and cat is extreamly heavy! probally shed 75lbs off the truck by doing this exhaust swap. just wanted to let you guys know you can get a sweet sounding 4 inch exhaust without spending a fortune. i dont know about egt's. truck is stock without guages(only for a short time longer though!!)..... james :D

Walker Muffler

I am a big fan of the "Walker" muffler. My 2000 2500 had the same muffler and was one of the best sounding mufflers out there. Just my opionion guys! I now have an 03 3500 with the same muffler and have been pleased with the sound BUT I must admit that nothing sounds as good as the old 24valve with this muffler. My truck doesnt have the "cat" but there was a difference between the tail-pipe portion of the muffler and the turbo side of the pipe which my muffler guy was able to work around. Basically the muffler goes uphill a little to meet with the tail pipe portion of the pipe. You will notice some improvements with EGT's and Boost by removing the stock muffler ... . not much but enough to notice the difference. Good luck with the install ... ..... and glad to see another "Walker" fan out there.

oh yea!!! ya can't beat a $100 true 4 inch conversion on these trucks. i don't know why anybody would want to spend over $400 on a exhaust when they could go with the walker??... james

sounds like the walker is the way to go, ive been wanting to do something like that to get mine louder so two questions : #1 where can you get those walkers and #2 do exhaust mods , like swapping out mufflers or removing them all together have any effect warranty? thanks mtngoat

any napa can get them for you. part number is at the top of the page. i deal with 2 dealers in 2 diffrent states. no problems with warantees from either. good luck! ... . james
