Question for those with Timbrens

When riding without a load on your truck, how much space do you have between your Timbrens and the axle of your truck?



I completed my install yesterday ('05 2500 CTD) and only have about 3/8" between bottom of Timbrens and truck axle(no spacer used in install). Obviously this will mean I will be bouncing off the axle a lot when driving empty. The customer service guy at Timbren said this is not necessarily a bad thing and some folks install the "spacer" and ride on the Timbren at all times. Seems like that could be a little harsh.



Before installation, when hooking up my 5th wheel my truck dropped 2". I felt like 1" spacing would be a perfect balance between empty and hooked up.

I had Timbrens on an '06 Ram dually when I was transporting trailers. The rear springs on dually pickups are selected as a compromise between comfortable ride and ability to carry the load and sagged quickly under the heavy trailers I was pulling daily. Your original springs have probably sagged some also.

The small clearance before I hit the Timbrens caused a good deal of bounce over uneven road surfaces but I just accepted it. I still prefer Timbrens over the complexity and air leaks of air bags.

If the bouncing on the Timbrens causes you too much discomfort you could have your factory rear springs rearched by a good spring shop. Rearching is not very expensive.

I went with a custom setup with my Timbrens. I called and talked with Timbren about the setup that I needed and the help was above and beyond.



Height is a problem with my 4x4 3500 Daully and my 44' Gooseneck trailer. My truck needs to squat a few inches to help keep my trailer as level as possible. With the Timbren kit offered for my truck there would only be that very minimal space from the axle. I opted for a shorter Timbren Spring which let the truck squat that few inches more but from that height the Timbrens contact the axle and do the job. My truck is just level when loaded with this setup. I have a old pic I will post.

I had the same issue on my 06 2-wheel drive dually. Get hold of their customer service and they will send you shorter rubber pieces. I've ran timbrens for years on numerous trucks. I like Harvey do not like airbags which my wife's megacab has.

No Dodge experience, but on GMC 5500 4x4 fire trucks built by my previous employer, the Timbrens contacted the springs w/o spacers.
