Sticker shock or should I say Dealer backstab

The other day I was talking with a gentleman who has an 06 King Ranch with the 6. 0 litre power stroke. He was complaining about the huge number of repairs and money he has had to expend on the engine. He was admiring my truck and complimenting the ctd. He then made a comment which caught me off guard. He wondered why Ford did not use Cummings in their trucks since Ford owned Cummings. I said "What?" He said "yeah Ford owns Cummings they should be using them in their trucks. " I had never heard this before and not wanting to debate the issue with him kept my doubts to myself. Is this true? Does Ford Motor own Cummings?

Ford owning Cummins:-laf

Cummins spelled Cummings:-laf

Once a bad rumor or peoples inability to spell gets started there is no stopping it!

BTW: Believing anything a Ford owner says serves you right:D

I hang my head in shame. Lesson however, well learned. I'll never use a "g" in Cummins or believe a Ford owner (not that I did).

Here is the scoop on Cummins being owned by Ford--

Doesn’t Ford own Cummins? - JonWaraas.com

"Q: Doesn’t Ford own Cummins? If the Cummins engine is so fantastic, why doesn’t Ford use the Cummins engine?

Back in the early 90′s, Ford bought less than 15% of outstanding Cummins stock. Many companies buy into other products to add diversity, corner a market, or form an alliance. In 1997, Cummins repurchased all stock previously owned by Ford, and no Ford management is now on the Cummins board of directors. Since 1998 in the pickup market, Cummins B engines are exclusively contracted to Chrysler, an arrangement that both companies are eager to continue. Ford medium duty (class 6 and 7) and heavy duty class trucks are available with Cummins B engines. "

You could have replied that in the day that his troublesome 6-litre was made, Ford barely owned Ford, due in no small part to the billion dollars in warranty claims and buybacks resulting from that engine.

ahpn,

Welcome to the TDR forums if you have not been previously welcomed.

You are forgiven. We understand. This question pops up from relatively new members from time to time.

In the future you will know that anytime a Furd Powerchoke owner approaches you he is not too smart to begin with or he wouldn't be driving a Furd Sick. Ohh and secondly, he is likely to tell you the same old nonsense about "Furd owns Cummings", whatever Cummings is. As far as we know Cumming is a city in Georgia where TDR is located.

Welcome to TDR - - and don't feel stupid - - Your friend the Frod owner is the stupid one - - - for buying a 6. 0 Frod Oo. Oo. Oo.

A lot of ford owner's lay claim that ford owns Cummins. As stated above Ford did own some stock 10 to 15%(ownig 5% makes you a owner of a corporation I believe) becuse they wanted the b or c series in their med duty trucks. To set up a line Cummins requested ford buy stock which Cummins bought back after a couple of years.

I believe Cummings is a poet.

Hang on a second here... . I'm a previous Ford 6. 0 owner and can personally vouch for all problems. Mine was in the shop for 1/3 of the time I owned it.

I'm so glad I bought my 2010 Cummings!!!

Craiggo, you're not a Furd owner. You are a former Furd owner who recognized his problem and dealt with it. You have considerable credibility here because you've "been there and done that and learned your lesson. "

Almost there craiggo... partially converted... one more step and you'll be there;):D Welcome!

Don't be too hard on the miss spelling of Cummins. Most spell checks will replace cummins with Cummings. Like mine just tried to do

Thanks for the words of encouragement and understanding, lol. I am new to this site and diesel ownership. This site is extremely informative . I did alot of research before I bought my Ram 3500 with the CUMMINS and came to the conclusion that the Ram beat all the others out. It surprised me because when I first started the process I had every intention of buying a Ford. I Haven't looked back. The truck is awesome (except for the key fog which is driving me crazy). Now my brother is talking about dumping his f350 w/pwrstroke in favor of a Ram with the cummins. I cant say enough about the truck. Its also kind of cool to see the Ford and GMC guys checking out the truck. There don't seem to be many 2010 up here in Mass so when guys (and girls) see them they stare. Anyway love the truck.

.

It wasn't Navistar's fault that Fraud made them change motor design. And watch what you say about the infornation on this site I dont think you want to voice your political outlook untill you read around a bit
