Hi Boys. I have a question for yall. I just drove home in my new 2004 SLT 2500 4x4 quad cab 9000GVW with an auto trans. Can yall tell me what trans this truck has i. e. 47re or 48re. I traded in my 1998. 5 1 ton DRW auto trans and it felt like this new trans is shifting one more time than the 98. Could this be or am I just in lala land over my new ride. :D

I have the build sheet on the truck if thats any help and I crawled under the truck and I can see a lot of numbers but none say anything about a 47re or 48.

Thanks up front

Look on the sticker in the glove box, this should tell you. As far as I know, Dodge switched to the 48RE in the early part of the 03 model year production. My 2003 has the 48RE. As for the shifting into another gear, you are probably feeling the Torque Converter locking up at about 47 mph, the RPMs will drop and you will feel like you have a bit more grunt! Enjoy the new rig.

Trans= 48RE

And what your feeling is the TC locking up harder/faster than the 47RE,b/c it has to cope with the higher power.

I see you have a 5th wheel what kind of hitch are you using withyour short box. I have been looking around but have made up my mind yet.
