Polish poet question

If you buy this say a starter and a CORE is involved its TWO prices. "They"want the OLD one to reman. Its how reman parts get a inventory. Some things may have a HIGH core price if you decide to keep it as the REMAN company really wants the old part to increase stock levels etc. As inventory levels become high the core charge may drop or not even have a core price.

The other guys explained why in the above posts. This is how it works:

You want a part that costs $10 but there is a $5 core charge. This means you pay $15. Then you bring in the old part (that's still rebuildable), and you get your $5 core charge back.

Except on occasions where the core charge is used simply for profiteering. Example: Let’s say a vendor is offering a performance package (gas engine) that includes modified (ported) stock heads of a newer version of the same head (hemi), cam and headers. But the cost of the kit is inflated to an exorbitant amount which leads you to believe you are actually getting new castings of the newer version of head with performance modifications (ported) done to them. Where in actuality, they are taking the “cores” modifying them, and placing a fat wad of cash in their pockets for the effort.

What the consumer is left with is a performance package which costs more than the actual modifications to your original heads if sought locally and the loss of your OEM numbers matching heads.

This would be a basis for not going forward with a vendor’s core charge process. in this case it’s called a rip-off!

You lost me on this example. Sounds like it's not so much an example, rather an actual situation with the names withheld to protect the innocent (and guilty).

On the other hand, if it was never stated by such vendor that the heads were a new casting, then is your only complaint that the price is too high?
