I'm new here so just to introduce myself. I'm Lenny. I've got a 99 2500 that I bought last summer. Right now motor wise it is stock. It has a 4" lift and 35" BFG's on it. The stock exhaust was straight piped when I bought the truck. I have to take the truck through emissions coming up and I was going to put an exhaust system on it before that.

Is the MBRP 5" system a good product? I was going to go with a stainless system but I don't know if I need to spend the extra money for it. I live in Nashville now and a few times a year head up to Ohio where I'm originally from but I'm real picky about washing any salt off of the truck as soon as I get back to Nashville. If not the MBRP 5" system for my truck what would you recomend? All I really plan to add in the future is a set of guages and some type of a small chip/programmer. I really just want reliability, I don't need a ton of power. I've got my "work" trucks that have plenty of power. Thanks for any help!

Hi Lenny. Welcome to the TDR! I think you will get many good ideas on this topic. Fortunately, there are many good choices. My . 02 is that a 5" system is WAY overkill if your truck is stock and you've got no wild plans for engine performance mods. I've heard much good feedback regarding the MBRP systems but no experience with them myself. I'd recommend giving Rip a call at Source Automotive Performance Diesel. His 4" aluminized setup is hard to beat price wise and you won't find a better person to deal with than Rip. If I recall, I think the MBRP systems have the hangers welded on and the system I got from Rip had clamp-on hangers. I personally think I prefer the clamp-on style because I was able to position it exactly the way I desired and then clamped it down.

I don't think the stainless is really necessary. We've got more salt up here in MN and I've not had any significant issue with mine rusting over the past 2 years now.

Get Rips 4" Allied system, it rocks! It sounds great, fits great & you can't find a better person to do business with IMO.

If your looking to run a muffler i would go with MBRP. If not look into a Budget kit they also have the clamp-on hanger style.
