I have been reading old posts all week on injectors and timing and lots of tuning threads that I still don't fully understand. I have no plans to do any mods for power. I am fully content with the towing power I have, but I am interested in mods that would be more efficient and still stay basically stock. From what I gather from reading timing can be bumped to 15. 5 on a stock truck. They were set lower to meet emission standards. My truck has over 300,000 miles and worn injectors could cause you to lose a degree or so of timing. Most people report that after advancing timing on a stock truck there is no great change in economy unless their timing had slipped.
Now lets talk injectors, this subject is over my head. It seems from most posts that people with larger injectors seem to get better mileage and they tend to bump their timing up more. Is this because they want to run in the higher rpm's and have 3000 gsk's, etc? I realize that you want your timing to be optimum for the rpm you mostly drive in.
The next subject is the fuel plate. If your not at full throttle does the plate really matter? Do delivery valves matter? If your not racing does governor springs really matter?
I guess what I'm really asking is what is the best setup to drive a stock truck at 1900 to 2000 rpm, which is about 70 mph on the highway. The best relationship between timing, injectors, etc. for cruising speed. Feel free to correct any statement I made. I know there are thousands of posts on the subject but I couldn't find any with setups just for cruising and I'm still confused. Just trying to learn a little and maybe get all the info in one post. Sometimes it's hard to search and find the answer.
