Hey guys,

I am getting close to 20K and was looking to make the change over to synthetic. I am not looking to start any oil brand wars here though. I am lookoing at using Amsoil 3000 series 5W-30 in the pan and Severe Gear 75-90W in the pumpkins as well as amsoil in the transmission and transfer case. I welcome any comments from guys that run this, any increase in fuel economy? shudder in the rear end? etc.

To get to the main point, what oil filter are you guys running? I have used Fleetguard filters so far and have no problems. I was wondering about switching over to Amsoil EA filters? Any comments? They sound pretty good from the marketing material.

Thanks

My truck has amsoil the whole way through it. I am running 15w40 in the motor, 75w90 in the diffs. No shudder in the rears, and the motor runs a little smoother. I am running the fleetguard stratapore will stick to it since they are so cheap. Amsoil bypass (BMK-11 with a be-90) just came in. I also recently switched back to the stock air box with a ea air filter and like the results. Once the bypass is installed I will do 7500 full flow changes and samples. Hope this helps.

I ran amsoil in both of my previous trucks from front to rear and never seen any improvements or fuel milage improvement over standard oils that were called for in each trucks sevice manual, I also didn't see any ill effects either. I will use amsoil in the front end and rear end only because of cost is better. I think it's a waste of money to run expensive oil in the crankcase and you can now buy ATF+4 at wal-mart. This is from my own personal experience in the two previous trucks.

In my opinion 5-30 is too thin of an oil for a diesel engine. 5-40 even made my engines louder.
