RedNut, You can switch back and forth from synthetic to petroleum based oil without a problem. Personally I use Shell Rotella T 15w-40, and change it every 3000 miles. This might be overkill, but it's cheap insurance. Happy Holidays, -Glen

Yes you can switch back and forth withhout problems. I agree with the 3000 mile oil change for cheap inscurance factor, and I agree too that it is overkill.

Personally I didn't like the Rotella T 15w40, noiser in the cold than the Mobil Delvac 1300 15w40 that is in the truck now.

Here are a few of my opinions. If you switch back and forth between syn and conventional it seems logical to stick within the same manufacturer (Delvac 1300 and Delvac 1) for better additive compatabily, although this isn't necessarily the case. You can also switch between mfg's without problems. Personally if it were me I would stick with the same mfg just for the peace of mind it would provide me.

I didn't notice what your milage was. say 50-60 k I wouldnt switch to syn.
straight oils and syn's do different things to the seals Why take the gamble.
In past field trials you can go from syn's to reg oils with no problems,BUT not the other way around unless your miles are on low end.
As far as swithing from brand to brand -oil is oil,how ever it is the additive package that may battle back and forth. Pick a brand and stick. One may clean deposit another formed. Like a steak, it's been seasoned once and now you are going to scrape it off with another.
As far as 3k between changes you never stated what your driving routine was & what oil you were using.
Say 2-5 miles to work. Stick to 3000mi.
Hwy-miles stoping a couple times a day to refuel,You are throwing money away. Good lube 5 k.
When in doubt use cummins blue Or Valvone for diesels,"They are " the blenders for cummins blue.
I my self us a oil you can't buy over the counter. Used it in a fleet of big rigs and know the results,if you could buy it you would pay about the price of syn's or the other brand, and i don't mind anyone making a profit, but the comission is over the line on some of the products, and some companys just want(as in my brand)the fleets and blend for other major over the counter "&" spiecaltly companys, and mfg. factory fills. Superior lube and volume, low commission's.
Pick one --try it--AND stick. .
